Pat EisenbergerParticipant
Angela – this is the neatest idea I’ve heard in a long time! I also live in a community where the harp is completely alien. (We only have bands in our schools.) When I’ve played in public people are shocked and enchanted. It’s wonderful to introduce them to this beautiful instrument. Please continue to post your experiences with this.
Pat EisenbergerParticipantHi Kathleen – I tried selling my pedal harp (I’m strictly lever now) for a couple of years. Then I contacted several harp teachers in the area. In a couple of months the harp was sold to a student!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantSherry – that harpist is a snob. I suppose that she also looks down her nose at “pop” musicians and composers – including McCartney and Lennon. I’m sorry that she hurt you, but I’m grateful that you are not like her!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantAn 8 year old girl with thick glasses said to me, “You play real pretty – when you’re not making mistakes.” It was said with no judgment and such honesty that I still laugh when I think about it!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantAlice & Shanon –
I’ve only become interested in this subject, and I have one question. I’ve written and arranged music, and studied music in college so I’m well versed in theory. However, when I began playing the harp about 12 years ago, I found I couldn’t improvise. I was stuck playing the notes on a page. (Mental block, I guess!)
Pat EisenbergerParticipantAnyone else here know the old Harry Chapin song, “Dance Band on the Titanic?” That was in my head the whole week of the 100th anniversary.
“Well, they soon used up all of the lifeboats
But there were a lot of us left on board
I heard the drummer sayin’ “Boys, just keep playin'”
“Now we’re doin’ this gig for the Lord”Jesus Christ can walk on the water
But a music man will drown
They say that Nero fiddled while Rome burned up
Well, I was strummin’ as the ship go down..I heard the dance band on the Titanic
Sing “Nearer, my God, to Thee”
The iceberg’s on the starboard bow
Won’t you dance with me”
Pat EisenbergerParticipantA L&H Style 85GP will fit in a Chevy HHR – but not with the bench. The HHR is a great value – we are getting terrific gas mileage. I bought mine new – and then my husband bought one. I don’t know what used ones are selling for, but ours have been good, dependable cars.
Pat EisenbergerParticipantI’ve wondered for years what I could do about my harps should I “no longer need them.” I have to children – and thus no grandchildren – to pass them on to. The harp I had Bill Webster build for me is especially dear. The idea of having someone sell the harp on commission and have the proceeds given to my estate seems my best option. I would like to hear of other ideas, tho…
Pat EisenbergerParticipantI’ve played them at The Harp Gathering. I think the sound is very nice, and the light weight is amazing! If you don’t like the curved soundbox, Dave has a new model that is the traditional lever harp shape. If I did a lot of gigs, I’d have one for certain!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantLOL Kreig!!!! Count me in, except…
Nothing in the world could make me give up my Webster McFall. I love the celtic carving and the deep mahogany color. But more than that – I’m crazy about the deep, mellow and clear tone. Perfection!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantThanks for the advice everyone. I found one I could download without any accidentals!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantThis isn’t a “harp” joke, but being that I’m currently taking photography classes, it’s my current favorite – combining my two loves of music and photography:
What did Mozart do when his Nikon broke? He borrowed Pachelbel’s Canon!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantDo you like a slightly “jazzy” sound? Frank Voltz has some great original music plus Christmas music and hymns. You’d never know from the sound that it was fast and easy to learn!
Pat EisenbergerParticipantI have a L&H Style 85 GP that just fits in my Chevy HHR. I’m not certain if Chevy is still making the HHR, though – but it get’s GREAT mileage and is a all-around economical car. Great bang for the buck, but certainly not a luxury car…
Pat EisenbergerParticipantIt’s a carbon fiber harp? I wouldn’t worry too much if it’s a Heartland Delight. Dave Woodworth once threw one from a second floor balcony into a hotel swimming pool – on purpose! It played just fine afterward…
