ParticipantI know that I’m not a good harpist, so I close the windows when I practice. (I also tend to swear when I make mistakes.)
You remind me of a story my teacher told me. She has a cottage on a small lake. Sound travels far on the lake. One morning she got a knock on her door. This couple had just bought the cottage across the lake from my teacher. They told her they were sitting on their deck their first evening, watching the sunset. The wife had just said that she was so happy they had bought the cottage because the lake was so beautiful, it was just like heaven. Two seconds after she said it, they heard harp music!
In the morning they asked the neighbors and found out that there was a harpist living across the lake from them. They looked her up to tell her the story, and that they were looking forward to their evening concerts.

ParticipantI also had a Prelude that broke strings frequently – one WHILE I was playing that hit me on my glasses. I think it’s just the nature of this particular beast.

ParticipantI had a great relationship with my Prelude, but had to trade it in to get my Style 85GP. I was a bit tough, but

ParticipantYou know what they say – you never forget your first time! Sounds like it was not only successful, but fun. Good job!

ParticipantMy teacher would wipe down her harp strings with alcohol after a day’s worth of lessons. She has many youngsters, and she didn’t trust them to wash their hands.

ParticipantI have to add one more…my grandmother used to refer to a lady’s rather *ahem* ample buttom as a “caboose.” As in the last car on a train. I’m afraid I picked it up and have used it frequently to refer to my own back-side. (And there’s another term for you!)

It’s a pedal harp. You can add your own text, so you can put any phrase on it you want.

ParticipantAs a CafePress shopkeeper (The Sheltie Shop http://www.cafepress.com/sheltieshop) I can tell you that they don’t have window decals – just bumper stickers.
For years I wanted a decal for my back window that said, “Home is where my Harp is.” If anyone else is interested, let me know and I’ll do some searching on the web so see where I can create a design printed up for us. Also, let me know what you’d like by way of graphic (lever or pedal) and text.

ParticipantBrook –
The same thing happened to me, except I was home practicing. Forunately I have glasses, or else I’m sure it would have hit me right in the eye. My teacher said she never heard of this happening. Now there’s two of us!

ParticipantI’m with you! I have house/husband/two dogs/quilting and harp I’d rather be involved with. But without my job, I wouldn’t have the harp, so…

ParticipantHey Elizabeth – this is a great solution! It would also work for the guys. Never thought about them before. (Has a mental picture of a guy with a tux and cowboy boots – *sigh*)

ParticipantI had some low-heeled “sling-backs” (like pumps with a strap to tighten at the back), with slighly rounded toes and leather soles

ParticipantI think she wasn’t shocked because she knew that harps are almost always pricey

ParticipantWOW! Katie your site is incredible! I really love the fact that you have MP3s on it. (I finally know that I’m playing the Little Fountain right…) The recording is perfection. Did you do it in a studio? Do you have a CD? So many artists have CDs available for purchase at their gigs these days.
When I grow up I want to play like you! ;-7
