Here’s a link to my latest photo. Not much of the harp, but not too bad of me!
I’ve played one instrument or another since I was a child, and was a music major in college. But I married young and drifted away from music. In my thirties I got into writing music, and did the usual church choir bit. In my mid-forties I went to a Renassiance Festival (as I do every year) and – there is not better word for it – I fell under the “enchantment” of a harper. I could have sat and listened all day! If you stop by, by all means please introduce yourself! But don’t go to 12 Mile & Van Dyke – the mall is at Dequindre and 12 Mile. Van Dyke is “Tech Plaza” and is all outside. Universal Mall is an inside mall, but I’ll be playing not too far from the doors. I plan to wear a sweater and keep my tuner handy!
Practice of Christmas music went poorly this weekend. I’ll be working extra hard all week – only five more days to go before showtime…
It’s so nice of you to be supportive, June! But really, I’m not all that much to listen to, and the mall is not a fancy one and in a “so-so” neighborshood. One of my Shelties likes to cuddle up to my harp when I’m not playing. The other one, Duncan, is quite unusual. He is extremely timid and fearful. Something which we are working on daily and seeing small improvements.
When we’d only had him a few days, we were out ridding in the car. There was rock music on and he was, as usual, shaking like a leaf. I decided to turn the station to classical, and he immediately stopped shaking! I turn the station back to rock, and he started shaking again. At first he didn’t like my harp playing (everyone’s a critic!) but now he ignores it.
We’ve since discovered that he is very sensitive to noises. I’ve even had someone ask me if he could be autistic! I am now a faithful fan of the Dog Whisperer, and using his techniques I’m seeing Duncan slowly become more confident. We are trying obedience class (for the second time) next Saturday. Wish us luck!
Opps! I just went back and read the other posts. It seems that someone else had the idea of a black and silver finish. Boy, I’d love to see that Style 23!
I like the Salvi Minerva harp. I like the finish that you see on the Salvi web page (which I think might be rosewood), but I have this notion that if I were rich, I’d have one with black lacquer and white gold. I’ve never seen a harp with anything other than yellow gold. I’d also have any painting on the soundboard done in just black. and somehow any brass parts would be made silver somehow.
It could either be a showpiece or a travesty!

BTW – I just got a call from the Salvation Army – I’ll be playing at Universal Mall in Warren once a week in December. If any of you are nearby – please come in a say hello! I’ll have the exact dates in a couple of days…
Now I just have to buy some cornflower for my sweaty fingers!
I’ve been taking the beta blockers for three or four years. They don’t seem to help any for the stage-fright. However, if I forget one – I certainly know it!
