My Webster McFall has been ordered!
But if money were not object for a PEDAL harp – I’d get the Salvi Minerva with a custom finish. Black with white gold leaf!
Andy – I also had a dog (Sheltie) that like to sleep curled up to my harp. I had a fear that one day he would lean on it and it would fall on him.(It never did.)
My current dogs are not attracted to my harp.
Good for you! I’ve played many instruments in my lifetime, but stumbled by a harper at a festival 8 years ago. I swear, I fell under an enchantment! As an “older” beginner, I have to say that it is the most magical part of my life.

Take a look a William Webster harps. He has a smaller harp with high tension.
I’ve seen that harp (several years ago), and it really is a beauty. Aside of the beauty of his harps, I love the sound. I’ve played many different instruments in my time – everything from trumpet to bass clarinet and many in between (as a teenager I had hopes of becoming a band director) and I’ve always been drawn to those that I can feel vibrations from in my own body. Except the sax – there’s something about the sax that’s just, well, – wrong. (Sorry, sax lovers…) I felt the subtle vibration when I gave the McFall a good, strong base chord (D – Fsharp – D). It felt and sounded so Celtic! I do believe that in a previous life I must have been a Druid…. ;-7
Geri – have you ordered one yet? Do you live in the Detroit area? Perhaps we’ll have to have an event with all the people that have Webster harps…that would include DSO harpest Kirsten Alvine who would put us all to shame!
Bill is going to make mine in mahogany, and yes, I’m going to have it carved. I don’t know with what, exactly. It will be a little while before he can start on it so I have some time to decide.
The website must be incorrect. The one I saw was “C to C” plus 1. He had the room for an extra low B, so he put it in.
Although I don’t have a Webster harp (yet), I’ve met Bill, and seen his shop. (His shop is only a few miles from my house and in the same city.) He is very proud (and rightfully so) of his harps, and because I know a little about woodworking, he told me all about the careful steps he takes in creating a harp. My fondest hope is that one day soon, I’ll be able to watch (and maybe even help) Bill make my harp!
I also heard June at the Rennissance festival. I actually heard her well before I saw her. Silly me, I just had to follow the sweet sound! When I was a few yards away I recognized it as a Webster harp. I was surprised that the sound carried so far.

I’ve played and performed on several instruments all my life, but when it comes to the harp I’m a basket case on stage. I take great comfort in playing with others and enjoy it a lot. All I can say about “adjusting” to playing with another person is that you can only control your own performance – not theirs. It’s a true team effort that when done well is almost as good as – well – you know! I’ve even had a conductor ask for a cigarette after one performance of Holt’s The Planets…

I appreciate all the suggestions. Right now I’m still on the anti-inflamatory (Motrin-3) and it seems to be improving unless I overuse the arm by lifting something heavy. I don’t usually play pieces where I need to play in the highest octaves because with my L&H Style 85 the strings are spaced different from the lower octaves and I usually get several wrong notes. But, of course, I’m working on some new music that goes there – and that’s when my elbow hurts. I’ve been using heat before practicing, though, and that seems to help.
I never done anything at Yahoo. I just took a quick look and got a little lost. Do you have a link that would direct me in the right direction?
