The pre-practice routine
Assignment: Create a pre-practice ritual including breathing, posture check, and intention setting.
Create a 3โ5 minute routine you perform before every practice session. This could include several deep breaths while sitting at your harp with your eyes closed, a quick body scan to release tension (especially in your shoulders and jaw), and setting a clear intention for the session (Today I will master the pedal/lever changes in measure 16). This routine will become a psychological trigger that tells your brain itโs time to focus. Over time, simply beginning your ritual will shift you into a focused practice mindset, making it easier to avoid distractions and concentrate on practicing.
