Understanding and honoring different musical styles
Assignment: Research your pieceโs historical context and adjust your interpretation accordingly.
Every piece comes from a specific time, place, and traditionโand each has different performance conventions. Today, spend 15 minutes researching your musicโs history: When was it written? What was the composerโs style? What was happening historically? Then listen to at least three different recordings by respected performers. Notice differences in tempo choices, articulation, ornamentation, and dynamics. Your goal is not to copy anyone, but to understand the range of acceptable interpretive choices within that style.
