Learning from every performance experience
Assignment: Analyze yesterdayโs performance run-through. What went well? What can be improved?
Do a thorough analysis of yesterdayโs run-though. First, list objective facts: What went exactly as planned? What unexpected things happened? What mistakes occurred? Write these down without second guessing or blaming yourself. Next, process your emotions: How did you feel before, during, and after? Were there moments of confidence? Anxiety? Acknowledge these feelings without judgment. Finally, plan for next time: Based on what you learned, what specific changes will you make in future practice? This approach helps prevent two things: (1) dwelling on mistakes without learning from them, and (2) dismissing problems because โoverall it went okay.โ Every performance, good or bad, contains valuable dataโbut only if you take time to understand it.
