Todayโs tool
Practicing away from the harp
Assignment: Spend 10 minutes studying your music without playing, visualizing your hands playing the strings and flipping the levers, or your feet moving the pedals.
Take a step away from your harp and โpracticeโ without playing. Study the music deeply: sing the melody, analyze the harmony, visualize your hands moving, feel the fingers closing in the air. We know from neuroscience that mental practice activates nearly the same brain regions as physical practice, letting you rehearse anywhere. Itโs especially powerful for memorization and problem-solving tricky passages. Try this: mentally rehearse a difficult section three times, then go play it physically. Youโll be amazed at how much easier it feels. This tool also helps you practice when youโre away from your harp or when youโre too tired for physical practice but want to keep your music fresh.
