I think that the future is in different tunings.
when we have experimented with melodic range and rhythms, where next only surely tunings?
AndyIt happened on December 20th… My daughter Arami who turned 10 years old last week (her name is originaiting from Paraguay where her mother is from) had been selected to participate at a “young talent” contest at the famous South American TV Show “Sabado Gigante” (Those from South America or Spanish based culture do recognize this show broadcasted over 30 countries in Latin America since 28 years). At 1 pm we were in the studio located in Miami, and the public started to fill the studio… When we entered into the studio I was astonished how freezing was this location, and the reason being that over time, with the lights/spots required to registed such program, the temparature get warmer and warmer… You can anticipate what happened to Arami Paraguay Harp… totally di-harmonised to the point that the coordinator of the TV Program said that we had to fix this as soon as possible… otherwise could not participate!!! We had the special instrument with us to harmonized but that was too tough for us! We called Arami?s teacher cell phone, and found out that whe was working playing Harp in a mall (this was christmast time…) at 45 miles from the TV Studio and explained her the situation! At her next break she jumped into her car and drove those 45 miles (with lots of traffic..) in about 45 minutes.

Well actually I prefer the South AMerican harp but it is addictive!
I have a small lap harp I don`t use any more but have a lovely harp I got from Paraguay for only $600.
I was (and still am)taught by a chap in London who is the best of all teachers (in the most all round way).I`ll always have a chat to any soul out there who shares a love of this magic instrument…and I love to share my learning with those who are further along the road, or further back too. It doesnt matter.
Small bits of advice can reap great improvements!

I am 34 and I have had my new harp for about 3 weeks. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, but I can pick out simple melodies. I have a 22 string
I don’t feel so bad! I’m “only” 56, and got my 30-string (when all the strings are there and/or not broken) harp almost a month ago. I have 2 “a” strings missing, and the bottom G broke because I got too enthusiastic about tuning it.
There is no such thing as a ‘cheap’ pedal harp that’s in good condition. You can get a brand new semi-grand pedal harp for under $10,000…check out Venus harps website.
I am so happy to see that there are so many of us beginners who aren’t children, learning to play the harp.
There is a folk harp camp in Wells, B.C. every summer, I think in august. for more info, go to http://www.imarts.com. tons of people go there, and you’ll meet lots of harpers from all over the place, not just B.C.
I live in Prince Rupert, B.C., and know quite a few harpers in the area(Mostly in Terrace,the next town over) I’m sorry I don’t know of more stuff going on down south. You could always get in touch with the harp makers and ask them.I have all 4 vols. of this method, but I really bought it for the rare music it contains and the excellent history of the harp in Vol.4.
