Right. I agree with you but everything changed when you said “so far he is really happy with his decision”. I know how parents would think, because I have some who are also very concerned about my long-term decisions.
But I didn’t say I wanted to take that route, I just said that I wanted to keep it as a viable backup, in case other things didn’t work out for some reason or another. I suppose then doing music would be the only option, and thankfully the only option, because it seems so much more fluid and nice to me than most other occupations, but then again that is just me being idealistic I suppose. hi – not harp and bass specifically, but 4 concert grande pedal harps in the older boxy Toyota Van – so I would imagine something similar – anyway, suggest you load the harp in crown first on its’ column on the passenger side rear of your van so that discs won’t be likely to bump against anything on the side of your van – with the harp standing “on its nose” you should have plenty of room to get the bass in – try to use the seat belts on the passenger side to help secure the harp – and seat belts on the driver side to secure the bass – I can use the middle seat belt and the rear seat belt around the neck and base of my harp in my current Toyota Sienna – then use cushions or pillows etc to pad the harp and bass from each other – hope this works for you

I’m curious if you ended up purchasing a Grand Harpsicle? I’m interested in them for the same reasons you stated, however have some concerns about the quality of tone. I’m not too fussed if they sound good electrified/amplifed, etc. I’ve played pedal harp for years but just want something more transportable to jam with other musicians and plug into soundsystems.
You’re experience would be very valuable.

JadeThanks Patricia, I’ll email Mr Fay. Although I am really keen for an electric harp as I often do perform with DJs and electronic artists and its practically impossible to properly mike the harp when there are so many other electric devices competing.
Any other suggestions? I’m curious about the grand harpsicles… I know they are not high quality but as a transportable instrument it may be a better option.

Hrm. I didn’t realize this was an issue. The image is correct and not flipped. So, you would say it’s a one off or a kit of some kind?
I expect I’ll be going to the Edinburgh this April to try lots of harps. You too?

I’m in exactly the same situation – I had my first harp lesson yesterday, and am looking to rent until I can see more harps in the flesh at Edinburgh.
Thanks both – lots to think about. I’m going to rent for now until the edinburgh harp festival 2013 which will hopefully give me the chance to try many of the other models mentioned.
I’m a 59-year old beginning harpist and didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money on an instrument at the outset. I stumbled on the Waring Harp and ordered a kit, because the price was right.

Where do you come from? There are quite a few players around the globe but it of course depends on what level you’re aiming at. I’m currently working on tutorials for concert kantele that will be partly available on internet.I am a harpist and I love the arrangements of Sharon Watson. Check out the link below for her American Standards book… There are a lot of what you mentioned. Great stuff!!!!
