I am not a teacher, in fact, I am a beginner (adult) student. I don’t read music ‘fluently’, learned that million years ago when I was in elementary school, and forgot (almost) all about it. But I play some keyboard and guitar by ear. So, that is what my harp teacher has been teaching me, play by ear. She said I choose whatever song I like. So, I started with Enya song “Only Time”, my favorite song. In a couple week after my first lesson, I could play “Only Time” with broken chord. I still need to improve my technique (since I only been taking lesson 3 times), but at least I’d already know the concept of placing, plucking the strings, chords, etc. So, I assume your student would know the basic of harp playing a lot more than I do. Since she used to read written mucic, so she maybe used to not looking at the strings (and/or hands) too much. She can concentrate more on memorizing the tunes.

Hi Pat…any opportunity to give a testimonial! I work in the printing business and am constantly exposed to harsh conditions and even harsher chemicals. Around 1990, my thumbs started to crack and bleed…nothing worked. 1994 came and my index fingers started going. Winter was awful. The sides of my middle fingers started in around 1998. There were times that I had 4 or 5 fingers in various states of injury and still nothing really helped. Then in October of 1999, going into the winter, I desperately typed ‘cracked finger tips’ on a web explorer and found over a thousand ‘hits’. Fortunately, the ZIM’S CRACK CREAM testimonial page was only a few hits down on the first page. Wallgreen’s carried it, I got some, and in a few weeks, all my finger tips were healed and they have NEVER cracked since!! It’s all natural, cheap, and easy to use. I supplement it with AVON’s ‘Moisture Therapy’ hand cream and there have been no outbreaks in almost 3 years!! ‘Nuff said!!
Hi Saskia, I have owned a Venus Protege for almost a year and a half. I absolutely love it. The sound is beautiful and it has been problem free. The people at Venus are nice and helpful also. It is a great harp!
In my opinion, it is a wonderful idea for young harpists to do gigs, but if they start to get in the way of practice time, you’d better hold off a bit. Just a suggestion for future reference.

You have beautiful grammar!! Anyway, I have owned a Venus Aria for almost five years now and I LOVE it. I have never had any problems, the owners are completely efficent and knowledgeable. It produces a wide, full, beautiful sound in all registers and is completely wonderful. Getting Started.
My wife and I maintain a very large garden. We were mulching rows with hay and news paper one day. It helps to attrack helpful worms keep back weeds and keep the ground moist during dry spells. We usually catch up on the world events at this time also. My wife saw an article amongst the papers about a woman who played the harp and was still teaching. This was interesting because she started only when she was about forty. I thought of learning the harp for sometime and thought I could do it too, being forty myself. I thought, we’ll see. Well, my wife surprised me with a lesson for our anniversary. I’ve been going now for six months without owning a harp to practice on. Spent a lot of time learning to read music. I just got a harp and am now playing for hours at a time. Just gobbling it up. Its a whole new interest, a whole new world, a whole new passion. Looking forward to Christmas with the Harp. You never know who will read that next paper you throw away. There could be something in it that could inspire the course of anothers life. Oh by the way, my teacher is on vacation for a month.
