It just so happens that a harp technician was at my house today. (He used to work for Lyon Healy and now travels around, regulating harps.) I asked him about stuffing towels into the back of the sound board. He said do so wouldn’t hurt the harp…and probably would muffle sound well.

It seems to me that I read on post on this site some months back that was something about muffling the sound of a harp by gently stuffing towels into soundboard (through the holes in the back). I searched for the post, but didn’t find it.
Does anyone remember this? If not, maybe the mind is just going here…

I went to Lyon Healy in Chicago last week. I purchased the 85 CG. I tried both the 85 E (Concertino) and the CG.

If you have the desire (and it sounds like you do), you’ll do fine with the harp.
I had absolutely no piano background (and could not read music a year ago). Al most a year of lessons later, I am now in love with the harp…and am in the process of moving from my lever harp on to a pedal harp.

I don’t have THE answer for you, but here are a couple of thoughts.
Maybe you can take yourself off the hook and don’t have to say much of anything. These people are thrilled with their harps. If they pursue the instrument and start listening to other harpists etc, they will soon discover on their own that their harps are not quite up to speed.
Meanwhile, maybe you can say something about they have a “good” (using the term loosely)
