MemberI have the Durand (France) publication of Tzigane, for violin and piano. On the first page is printed: violon et piano (ou Lutheal). There is the word luth in my 1946-page Oxford-Hachette French-English dictionary, published in 1994, translated as “Lute” but Lutheal is not there. It would seem that the piano part may be played by harp with some adaptation of the fingering and voicing, using this edition. The piano part is 17 pages long.

MemberI am so sorry to hear this sad news. Dale worked on some of my harps over the years. At more than one harp Conference he would join John Escosa, Jack Nebergall, and DeWayne Fulton at a table and they would enjoy time together; now all four of them are gone. I like to think that somehow their spirits can now get together again…….

MemberHerald Music publications, sold in many harp music stores, include three “With a Friend” collections: Familiar Hymns, Twenty Carols, and Folk Harp. There are also several duets for harp with flute or violin, including the Argentine tango by Carlos Gardel, Por Una Cabeza; O Holy Night by Adolphe Adam, and others. For your own printed and illustrated catalog you can e-mail me privately.

MemberIf you contact Harp Centre Australia at: info@harpcentre.com.au with this question, and also the various local harp societies (Tasmania, Queensland, etc.) you will very likely have some replies. Also, the Chairperson of the harp event in Vancouver B.C., Elizabeth Volpe-Bligh (evolpe-bligh@telos.net) would have access to the list of those other Australians already registered and could put you in touch with them. Good luck!

MemberSaul, if you mean nylon wound over nylon, I wonder why you wish them for pedal harps? I have just a little experience using them on lever harps and after awhile the thinner, outer winding would break and “birdcage” as they say, sliding up and down the core nylon, making it all useless. As far as tone goes, on those lever harps I did not find the tone of those kind of strings outstanding. I wonder if others have had better experiences with them.

MemberJanie, I hope that graduates of those schools you mention will post their experiences here. My parents chose a conservatory for me and it was just the right choice as I was very happy there, but everyone leaving high school may have varying other abilities besides music that are also important to them. Your daughter is unique so be sure that together you sort out together the place she will spend at least the next four years. Best plan would be finding out whether there is a dormitory for students (none at Juilliard in the 1940’s; a rooming house ruled that school
