Plus you’d get to see Amanda sometime too.i’m also looking for a harp cart- i have a lyon and healy style 22 – does anyone know anything about the salvi harp cart – or a harp that has special extensions over the wheels to protect the harp cover? i would like a dolly that is like the lyon and healy one but with the harp cover protectors – any suggestions?
you might want to try the mideivel to modern books by samuel milligan. they are made for intermediate harpist- and are quite fun. (plus, they were made for lever harp so pedal changes are quite rare!) give ’em a try- they’re very very cheap in price (about $4 each)

becoming an orchestral harpist does not happen over night. I guess it depends most on your age. the ages when people [usually] absorb the most information is from ages 9-17 (or at least I think so). That does not mean you CANT play the harp if you are an adult.
first of all, find a harp and harp teacher. Like many instruments, buying the harp is an ENORMOUS investment. You may want to start on a celtic harp, which price range is usually from $1000-$5000 (for a good one) as for the big, impressive orchestral harps (we harpists call them pedal harps) they usually go for between $15000-$60000 depending on the model and manufacturer. On average, Id say you could get ur studies up to a profressional level within 7 years or so. (it depends on how much you want it- and yhow much you practice)
well, i guess it would be better if someone else gave you some information, as i am a wedding/orchestal harpist, but not nearly at the level of a professional.

Dave, you’re right. The gu-zheng is tuned in stacked pentatonics (do,re,mi,so and la) and normally in the key of D major. The melody is played on the right side. The left side of the bridge is used when “fa” and “ti” are required (and the corresponding sharps and flats of course):)

The book you want is “Screenplaying” by Mark Knopfler. It has a piano/guitar arrangement for “Storybook Love” (the Princess Bride theme) that can be adapted for harp. I got it from musicroom.com last year; they’re located in England but thanks to the miracle of the Internet my wedding musician had it in just over a week from the date of the order. Good luck!
I Learnt a very important lesson with my experience, be prepared, one day it could happen to you! When I first started to play the harp, and knowing that I wanted this to be part of my profession, I decided to volunteer at community houses and senior residences to get some s experience playing in front of people, also to help build some self
confidence. I was up at my cousins in Camrose, Alberta, for the summer,and since I brought my harp with me, I decided to volunteer at the local seniers complex. It was a larger residence and they actually had a small theatre room. I set up everything, was all ready to play, totally nervous, hoping I wasn’t going to pass out or something, and just as I was able to start, I couldn’t see the strings! The red and blue ones were fine, but it was all the other clear nylon ones. Cause you see, the floor of the stage was white, and they seemed to just melt away with the floor. So in the end it turned as a very, creative performance! Since then I always bring a dark colored blanket with me when I perform, just in case, cause you’d be surprised how mean times I’ve had to use it.
