I use my iPad. When I sit it on my music stand, it’s just the right height and angle to catch my hands and the strings. I also take it to my lessons to record my teacher playing new rhythms,or dynamics….
I recently purchased a Lyon and Healy 85GP, and love it. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten a concert grand, but every time I load it in and out of my Honda CRV, I’m so glad I didnt! A 44 string harp does not require a mini van to move it, and if you play for long periods of time, it’s more comfortable. ( for me anyway)
I have bought a cover from four seasons. It was the fully padded one. It was very well made, and the fit was perfect. I also bought the 45.00 base cover. It’s not fully padded, but it’s really all you need for protection, as the cover goes all the way down to the floor. The base cover just enables you to set it down outside while loading and unloading, without getting the bottom of your harp dirty.
I also have a transport cover from Lyon and Healy for my 85GP, and while it is a bit better, I don’t think I would say its $345.00 better!
I highly recommend my teacher. She amazing, and teaches both lever and pedal harp. Her name is Stacey, and her website is http://www.harponthehill.com. She is accepting new students this fall. She lives about 3 blocks from a metro station which makes getting to lessons very easy. Give her a call! Her lessons are in English.
I have the 27 string salvi Juno, with ply wood sound board, and it sounds great. I love the back pack style transport case it comes with. It has quite a high string tension. Especially for a small harp.
Thanks Saul, I believe I will bite the bullet and go to the doctor. It seems like no one else has experienced this due to playing/practicing. It just takes so bloody long to have the tests done, and then get the results!
Yes, I have a great teacher who is always watching, and correctly my finger positions, and wrist movements ect. It must be just be over practicing or something. Maybe some time off would help to let it recover/heal, but its a circle.-you want to practice because you paid lesson money to learn, and it’s not cool to show up for lesson without practicing what you were told to do because then you’ve paid to just repeat the same thing!
I’m playing a prelude,and I I’m using my knees to keep weight off my shoulder as the weight aggravates my shoulder. I think it’s the strain of the arm position, or the repetitive motion/position, which is why I was wondering if it’s a common injury among harpists. I’ve been playing for a little more than 3yrs, and this only flared up about 4 months ago. My massage therapist says she can feel the inflammation I the muscles/ligaments.

I would recommend the Salvi Juno. I bought one recently, because I too, wanted a portable small harp. The Juno has a higher tension than most small harps, making it easier to go back and forth between your big harp and small harp. I have a lyon and healy prelude as my main harp, and I find it very easy to go back and forth between the two harps. It projects very nicely as well. I brought it to my harp teacher when I first got it, and she was very impressed with it. She said she thought it was a harp that she could even teach on , as the string tension is so similar to gut
