The most unusual but rather rewarding was playing request at a very large cematary. I was surrounded by black swans as I played on my black harp.
I have been reading this thread with great interest. Am intrigued with all the wonderful suggestions. I would like to add one of my own.
I only want to relate an experience I had with an agency that I no longer will work for because as the late comic Rodney Dangerfield stated “I got no respect “.
I would just like to offer some suggestions. Rather than go on my taste, I would ask the client what are their favorite songs. It could be something they were romanced to, something that was special for them when they were in high school, college, etc.
This reminds me of some advice I received long ago, about performing clothes. A jazz pianist friend of mine, related the story of an experiences she had on one of her steady jobs.
I know there are many schools of thought on this. Some would stick to their guns and do what they feel is true to there own standards and let others appreciate where they are coming from and
I can not tell you how appreciative I am of the wonderful comments, suggestions, etc. that I have read on this very important topic for me at least.
If you click on my name, you will find that I have been complaining about Harpgigs.com response history for at least 3 years. Everytime I feel I need to contact them for what every reason, I would send the same email daily and just change the #number. Ex. #1, #2,#3. And I do mean daily until I at least shame somebody into responding to my concerns.
