ParticipantMilena,
If you read the information in this link, it will answer a lot of your questions.
Information on Cross Strung harp by Harper Tasche
Lower down on that page, there’s also a reference to a book that Harper Tasche wrote, “How To Play The Cross-Strung Harp.”

ParticipantHi to all,
There’s an interesting side effect in this use of harp music for the dying.michael-rockowitz
ParticipantKaren,
There concern about glue joints in harps weakening under normal conditions (e.g., under 100 degrees farenheit) is one I’d never heard of.

ParticipantLiam,
I like the idea of working with a harp on a small scale, experimenting with what works and what doesn’t, what tensions are tolerated, and its impact on tone.

ParticipantMarie,
Tony, and I think Karen, have been playing harp far longer than I.

ParticipantLiam,
I’m curious as to where you got the brass for the soundboard.

ParticipantWilliam,
Here’s a link to a past thread on the harpcolumn where this was discussed.michael-rockowitz
ParticipantHi Song,
Its not your fault that this topic has generated such heated discussion here, and has taken on a life of its own.
In deference to the highly esteemed Mr. Grandjany, who was dragged into my limerick merely by dint of the sound of his last name, (and the topic of our discussion), as its author, I now elect to make his student less biased.

ParticipantWe’ve kind of discussed this to death, possibly beyond death.
I agree with Zen and Tacye in a way – there is the danger that the beginner will be seduced by the carvings and looks of the inexpensive Pakistani harps into thinking they’re getting more harp than they really are.

ParticipantI clearly disagree with a few folks here.

ParticipantGeri,
David Ice had what looks to me a pretty useful idea for this.

ParticipantZen,
What about Stellan Sagvik’s point that there are different harpmakers in Pakistan?

ParticipantHello to all,
I’ve gotten the harp to a point which I am, somewhat arbitrarily, going to call finished. -
