ParticipantI’ve built some very basic stringed instruments, and have done basic/relatively simple setup and repairs on violins, so I’ll give you some advice that I don’t think will harm your harp any further.

ParticipantRachel,
You left out the cross-strung harp as an alternative – its just as viable an instrument (and entirely capable of the full range of western music) as the pedal or lever harp.

ParticipantKay,
I think that for a guitarist (or many other strings instrument players), it makes sense that what looks like soundholes on the harp (harpists’ string access ports) should face the audience, not the player, as would be the case for the guitar, mandolin, oud, etc.
The other thing I’ve observed, playing both the harmonica and the harp together (I’ve been doing this more the last few days) is that the metal harmonica holder leads you to hold the harp in a somewhat more awkward position-now you’ve got to shift the harp over a little, to a slightly different spot on your shoulder.

ParticipantThurau’s website has links to harpists playing his harps on youtube.

ParticipantI’m glad people appreciate the idea.
It works just as well if you put the harp make and model in the information section, as it does if you were to put it in the tag section (I have verified this).
If you’ve already made a video, if you’re so inclined, you very likely will be able to re-edit the “tag” section, or the information section.

ParticipantFor information’s sake, here’s Rick Kemper’s (of Sligo Harps) ideas/procedure for repairing a cracked harp neck.

ParticipantHi to all again,
I appreciate William Weber’s explanation, as well as Tony’s observation that piano tuners in general may be taking a great deal into account in the process of tuning, stretching intervals of various kinds, etc.My original intent was to describe a tuning procedure that I find simple, that’s I find gives a more pleasing result reliably than tuning slavishly to the tuner.

ParticipantI wonder what others think.

ParticipantSylvia,
I’m not a physician, just concerned.

ParticipantHi all,
The material I’ve been working on is different from what’s been discussed up to here – I haven’t been reading much music (although I’m able to do so).

ParticipantBernhard,
I enjoyed that video.

ParticipantNatalya,
Thanks for that info. -
