Waco-ish. It’s close to my hometown (Ft. Hood) without having to live there. I have to drive 2 hours to Austin for lessons. It was that or Dallas, and any responses I got from teachers in that area was either none or ‘no adults’. Dallas is the same distance for me anyways, and I’m quite happy with my teacher if not the drive.
Sylvia, your down in the valley right? Are there still a lot of snow birds down there during the winter? I haven’t been down there in a long time.

Earlier today I saw a youtube video of the air force band doing an impromptu performance at the air and space museum. And, yep, male harpist.
You can see him at 2:34 but his name tag is concealed by the soundbox. Maybe he’ll pop up on the forum or someone may know who he is?

There are good looking people all over, we just don’t noticed them unless they are doing something to catch our attention. Take an average person, clean them up a bit, and give them a Uniform, Sports car, Business suit, Nice dress, A big smile, A Harp… etc etc and they often look great. When they can actually use that outfit, car, harp, then they are stunning.
What kind of church has that kind of budget? Live exotic animals? Seriously?
I think the phone call and email game should end. Go see them in person, even if you end up having to say “thank you but no thanks”. It sounds like they are very disorganized and a calm face to face meeting would help. Bring a contract that you can edit or add stuff into just in case it goes well.
Next year, politely warn every harpist you know to be very wary. Also, it might decrease the stress if several harpists are taking turns at that disaster. Besides, I would think several harpists would be a better show than a Kangaroo and big snake and what not…
The next time your husband wants you to play a game involving projectiles show him your thumb, bow, and smile.
A lot depends on the harp you use, if there is no difference in string diameters you could try swapping the strings within the octave. If there is a difference, may you should talk with Bow Brand which is in England about custom coloring for you. You could also try all white/clear strings but that would probably still make things harder.
I would try to train yourself to recognize the strings as they are, because any time you play someone else’s harp you are going to be thrown off again.
I’m curious, did you develop synesthesia as a child or as you grew older? The other day I was thinking about how convenient it would be to have it and see the C’s and F’s as red/blacks.
Pain is your bodies way of telling you to back off before you break something or after you’ve already broke it. Heal up and work back into it. A week off wont ruin you. A month probably wont either. Eat well. Take some vitamins a few times a week. Drink plenty of fluids. Some pain you can work through, most pain means let the poor fingers heal up first.
Absolutely talk with your doctor and your teacher about it.
If your teacher fusses at you for resting your painful joints just remember that you wouldn’t keep using a pedal if you heard a grinding noise and groan from the harp each time you did. You’d get it fixed first. You are the most important part of the instrument and I’m betting your teacher knows that.
