I’d talk to your harp manufacturer about shipping. They most likely have more knowledge and connections anyways. Either company in Chicago has likely dealt with similar shipping before.
The problem your most likely to run into is if the Harp will be delivered to Panama by boat or plane. I’m thinking plane might be the better option. I just don’t recall many ships doing any unloading before/after traversing the canal.
Another option is to contact the American embassy in Panama. They might be delighted to help you find a way to bring an American made harp into the country.
I think for most people an acoustic with a pickup for amplification is perfectly fine. And, the options of picking up a Camac DHC or a L&H Silhouette without the same huge investment to obtain a true electric harp somewhat negates the need for the full concert grand with electric pickups on each string. But, an electroacoustic should amplify easier and will still sound good if it’s played acoustically where the pure electric harps lack the same soundboard resonance.
I think the 2000 and Rainbow are still a bit new in a market where the established large harps can do 98% of what the electroacoustics can do. It’s an evolution waiting for a need perhaps. Sound engineers are solving problems these harps would otherwise be well suited for I’m guessing.
The moment I knew I wanted one was when I saw the youtube video of Eleanor playing Baroque Flamenco on a Rainbow. I have a 2000 on order (same column) and now I’m gonna worry over the same thing.
I wonder if you can make a cover for the crown that will protect it inside the cover. Maybe a football helmet for our harps needs to be developed, haha.
I would be very concerned about what affect the high humidity will do to any harp. When I was there it rained for six months and was dry for six months. We had to run our air conditioning just to keep the mold from growing on the walls. its such a beautiful country but the humidity was brutal sometimes.
Things are probably going to get even worse now. I hope he and his family can get out of there if he’s not already.
Second opinions are never, ever, overrated. But, be careful you don’t go shopping for the answer you wanted because most times they doctors will agree. Don’t expect your shoulder to ever be the same, your goal should be return of as much function and pain control as possible. Most of your recovery will be with physical rehab, so make the most of it. The surgery just gets you to where the Physical Therapist can have something to work with.
Also be aware some surgeons do more shoulders than others. Knee’s and Hips are bread and butter to most Ortho surgeons. I’d fire up the google machine and research who the local specialists are. And, if there is a local professional sports team (football, basketball, BASEBALL) then try and figure out who their team doctor is. They all have injuries, but some have more shoulder injuries.
I’ve taken care of shoulder patients, but it’s been a while. Your arm is going to be put into an immobilizer sling most likely and remain that way for a while. Start practicing life skills with your other hand now, even if you don’t have surgery. And, please let us know how it goes. I’m wishing you a speedy recovery.
Mine hasn’t come yet either. It’s kinda like waiting for the christmas catalog as a kid again. But, in the meantime, the main articles are available online for you to read. Just sayin….

As far as multivitamins go, a generic one is probably fine. Nothing exotic. Also, if you wear a ring on that finger you might consider it’s role in the pain. I cant wear my wedding ring anymore it just causes throbbing in that proximal phalanx bone. My wife wasnt thrilled but the pain is gone. The MVI resolved my knee pain when I jogged alot.
I wish my ideas were as good as everyone elses though. Hope all is well.
You might need to give that finger a little more time to heal. Do some range of motion without resistance. A multivitamin could help with the healing also.
I know it’s obvious but so many overlook it.I’m kinda curious if it’s feasible to use a small enclosed trailer for transporting a harp?
I dont want to trade my jeep in. Maybe a dedicated trailer with a mattress on the floor and a means of securing the harp so it doesnt shift? It certainly would have to be on its side. Would the extra expense of a harp crate be a good idea?
A trailer and crate would be an added expense, but a lot cheaper than a new car.
