They sound very disorganized. Sounds like a disaster that’s on a slow burn. I agree with Gretchen that a phone call would probably help make sense of things. I hope you consider any further involvement carefully. It would suck to get involved again just to be ‘dismissed’ yet again before the events.
Are Bow brand the only gut strings available? I haven’t noticed any other brands, does that mean they are the only manufacturers? Are there any books on how the strings are made?
Did they think at all?
Next season, when/if they want a harpist again, should be very interesting. “Once burned, twice shy” and all that. Any harpist in that area should be rather reserved about working with them after this.
Be careful about how they treat you if they pay you for those 10 gigs, they may come back and demand performance for their paying you. You’ve been treated poorly, careful they don’t drag you deeper into their mismanagement.
I went to the local guitar center today thinking it would be nice to pick up an amp and cable for my harp. I left after 15 minutes when It was obvious that: a) I’m not sure what I need, and b) no one wanted to come help me figure it out. No lie, I had better customer service buying some gunpowder today (reloading).
Anyways, they didn’t seem to have any PA type systems on display but they did have some nice looking Bass amplifiers. Has anyone had good results with a Bass amplifier? I’m guessing a guitar amp wouldn’t be a good choice for us. I didn’t see any keyboard amps (but plenty of keyboards).
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against tattoo’s, lol. I just see plenty that probably were not done while sober or sane. And others that would not be considered in good taste.
My harp has already popped 3 strings. 2nd B and 3rd D and E. I would at least get 1st through 3rd octaves. On the plus side, the strings you get through 3rd octave are long enough for two replacements. All the strings popped up near the tuning pin. I think they are not stretching evenly along their length. I am tuning with pedals flat, and leave pedals flat when not playing.
A full set of strings will set you back over $400, closer or over $500. Skip the wires, you wont likely need then anytime soon and they are not cheap. I got the full set though.

I was overthinking the first tuning thing. It was not a problem. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t some rookie mistake I would be making. The strings were tuned down enough that they were wonky when you plucked them but still made a sound. I ended up just bringing C, F, and A up ‘close’ to tune then brought the others up close and then just go up or down all the strings tuning as you go.
The tracker will only show that it was picked up from the factory, it was still showing the same the day my harp arrived. I think I got the email that it left the factory over a week before I actually got it. They hold it for a lull in the hot weather. You probably wont get it tomorrow, unless perhaps you live close or something.
When you tune it up it will probably hold long enough to play a bit or practice. Mine is trending flat in all but the lower octaves (the wires). I’ve only had time to tune it up once a day due to my work schedule.

Odd, it’s listed right above the style 100. I just checked and it’s there.
Maybe you need to refresh your browser. Hit f5 on the L&H site. If that doesn’t work maybe your browser isn’t reading it right? Some phones wont pick up everything either, if your browsing from a phone. Or maybe I’m living in some parallel universe where it exists…
I suspect I’ll get a lot of practice tuning in the coming weeks. Maybe I’ve been spoiled with my rental which hardly budged.
Tuning was much faster with an app.
The cloth trick works well, thanks John. I used a pair of tube socks for what its worth (clean, or course). I tuned it up but being new it falls flat pretty quick. It sounds so rich compared to the rental lever harp I’ve been using. I mean, the rental sounded good but this is so far beyond that even with it falling out of tune quickly.
I thought I was past the blister stage. Silly me… Oh well, it’s a good hurt.

I always wanted to try and find you at University hospital playing, but never got the chance. Do you still play there? There was a lady that played at N.E. Baptist apparently, but she stopped around the time I came. I always wondered if it was not only public playing for enjoyment/community service or if it was also a paid service. When I feel like I have something to contribute I’d like to do it, but that may be a while.
My daughter stole my ipad, but I found a tuner app for the surface pro that works much better than the Korg, at least in letting me visualize the scale and where I am on it.
I think what threw me for a loop was that as soon as you get one string close it affects all the others nearby. I swear everything went wonky when my daughter walked in the room, haha.
The process is more clear to me now.
