Definitely contact L&H they can tell you when the harp was made and may even have some history on the harp.

Chris, I would call the harp shop first and describe the problem. Most harp shops carry abraisive cord and they should be able to send you a length. It is very inexpensive. I am not sure were you are located but here in the US Lyon and Healy, Vanderbilt music and Melodys all arry the cord.

I had several bad BB strings about 1 1/2 years ago. I was so frustrated that I wrote to BB in England. They replaced 7 or 8 strings and apologized profusely. Just two weeks ago I replaced a third octave F with BB 3 x’s from 2 different strings. The 4th one is finally holding pitch and has not broken. They were spare strings I had for a while and I suspect they were from the period when BB was having significant problems. I just received 3 Vanderbilt guts but I have not put them on the harp yet so unfortunately I cannot evaluate them yet. I used to love the old Classic Vanderbilt gut strings.

Carl, that is certainly possible. Trigger finger is caused by a narrowing of the tendon sheath that surrounds the affect finger tendon so that the tendon cannot glide smoothly. It can be caused by multiple different reasons including but not limited to inflammation, overuse, arthritic conditions, etc. If from overuse, it really is necessary to rest and examine technique to avoid reoccurences in the future.

Bill, Ask your doctor if the injection can be done with ultrsound guided imaging. That is the best way to assure the cortisone gets to the right area. Also I would seek care from a physician who specializes in treating hand and wrist problems if possible.

Wil, thanks for pointing that out. I actually use a Peak music stand for travel and it is quite stable for that purpose. I forgot to mention that.

I second the recommendation for the Manhasset music stands. They are great and extremely sturdy and well balanced. I got the one with the double shelf and in addition to music it holds my glasses pencil and marking pen. I am also able to clip my snark tuner to it. It is not good for traveling though as it really doesn’t fold up. Manhasset does make a portable stand as well.

I own a Lyon Healy Prelude 40. It’s string spacing and tension are described as similar to their pedal harps. It uses pedal harp gut strings and the size of the harp is the same as their Chicago pedal harp sans base which is deeper to accomodate the pedals so the vibrating length of the strings is the same. That said, I absolutely love my harp. It has a big rich, warm and mellow sound which is what I wanted. It is easy to find used Preludes since many eventually trade up to a pedal harp. It is a great size for gigging and fairly easy to transport. It has held it’s value really well and expect to pay about 10% less than new. If purchased new L&H has a buy back program if you want to upgrade to pedal harp. Like all harps,it’s important to try before you buy as every harp is different.

You might try contacting Megan Metheny @ greenharp.com.  She plays almost all of Andre’s music. She may be familiar with the music.
