In my last house, I ended up in a situation similar to the photo Emma posted. The carport was about 6 feet below the the house level as the property was built on a slope. Fortunately, there was a place in front of the house that I could add another door to the front porch. So I cut through the cement block, added a header, and put a steel security door in the front that was not very noticeable. I would take the harp out front and wheel it down the driveway to the carport on another level. The only problem was weather, so if I knew I would move the harp, I would keep an eye on The Weather Channel and load accordingly.

Hope this helps you think outside the box…

Lots of good information in this thread. If you have had experience, please tell me more about the Toyota RAV4, and also I’ve seen a Volks Wagon Passat wagon on the road that looks like a good harp mobile. I’ve been downsizing, so for my next car, I do NOT want a minivan, I’m 6’3″ and need a harp mobile that will fit a full size concert grand harp with the driver’s seat pushed all the way back. Thank you….

Wow Kreig and Alison, that really helps. Thank you. Do you know if the new version of the Prius V is larger than the old one? When I’m ready, I need to take my harp to a Toyota dealer and try it out. Maybe I can drive occasionally with the driver’s seat a little forward, but not too much. I’m just under 6′ 3″. I’m taller from the waist up and need a car with lots of headroom also. I’ve had two mini vans and I want to downsize.

Elizabeth…. I’m tall and sit with the driver’s seat all the way back. Does the concert grand load with the seat all the way back, or does it have to be moved forward?

Faye, that link was sent to me by my harpist friend Christine MacPhail. She recently bought a Prius V. I don’t know if harpsetc. have reviewed other brands, but if you find out please update us. I want to downsize from a minivan to a station wagon as I don’t move my harps on a regular basis. I’ve seen some medium size VW station wagons on the road, so I eventually want to check those out also. My mechanic told me to buy a pre-owned Mercedes which he says is the best car on the road, but I really want a car that gets better gas mileage…..

    Hi Patricia,
Thank you so much for the nice words. I remember you fondly and well. I think I’m overdue for another harp conference, especially if it is in the Pacific Northwest. I do have plans for Australia in 2014.

In six weeks I’ll be celebrating my 34 year anniversary as a full time musician at Walt Disney World in Florida. Slowly but surely getting my groove and building confidence….

Yes… I will “Carry On” for many, many more years…..

…. other than playing strict Classical music notation, I can’t figure out why anyone would ever want to play music without knowing the chord symbols…. but that’s just the way my brain works….

OK… time has passed. I took some time off (a couple years) working on perfecting the electric-acoustic harp. I’ve discovered some of the new processors have improved tremendously! I recently purchased a Boss ME-70 guitar processor. It is far superior to anything I’ve used in the past and and is user friendlier. I’m retiring my old electronics. The guitar presets don’t translate well to the harp, but it is so easy to create and save sounds. It also has a built in EQ and directly plugs into my JBL EON Powered Speakers, so I don’t need a mixer. Am I alone, or has anyone else here been exploring and experimenting also? Here is a link to my user-friendly processor. Hooray for new technology!

I just checked out pianofiles.com. It sound like something that really is illegal, and is doing business in “the grey zone”. I would NOT recommend anyone using this service.
