Introducing Alfredo Rolando Ortiz!
We’ve been busy adding new artists to our catalogue here at Harp Column Music, and this month we are thrilled to welcome Alfredo Rolando Ortiz! I first found out about Alfredo when I was looking for fun music for my student ensemble. They absolutely loved playing “Llano” (from Two or More Harps Flexible Ensemble Collection Vol. 1), and as a teacher, I loved how easy it was to adapt this piece for different levels and types of harp. (Watch our performance video from 2013!)

Harp ensemble music by Alfredo Rolando Ortiz:
Alfredo Rolando Ortiz is no a stranger to us here at Harp Column. You’ll find our feature interview with him in our July-August 2019 issue, and we’re always excited when we run into him at harp events around the world! We asked Alfredo to tell us more about his music:
“The music is fun, exciting, romantic, unique, contrasting, and, more importantly, always loved by performers and audiences. Our wonderful rhythms and harp music styles were a treasure ignored by the rest of the harp world, so in 1979 I published my first book, Latin American Harps History Music and Techniques. Now, decades later, after hundreds of workshops, lectures, and performances at major harp events around the world, my music has become a favorite of teachers and students. Eleven of my compositions are listed in the harp syllabus of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and exploring on YouTube brings up hundreds of videos of harpists of all ages and on all types of harps performing my compositions. I am delighted to have my music now also available to you at Harp Column Music, and I hope you will soon be having fun with it!”
