Camac in the natural finish and antique maple are rather glamoous! I haven’t seem enough of them to say how good they are in general – but I do know alot of famous harpists seem to use them and they sound pretty amazing on recordings.(Isabelle Perrin for instance, isn’t she wonderful?!)

…yes, I’ve heard of that one, and when you order they say in a sarcastic voice “I can’t hear you!” And when your meal comes it is nothing like what you ordered, and when you query it they roll their eyes and say…”well, that was a really stupid choice and this is what Salzedo would have eaten…”

Actually, I saw a handful of Salvi’s recently and was really disappointed in them. They were very very hard to play and did not have the dolce sweetness in the upper register that mine had…but maybe that is becuase mine was played it. But they do seem quite different than they used to be.

I had a tinkle on Alices Salzedo and 23 and they were both lovely instruments. The Salzedo had a really beautiful bell like upper register. I have never heard a bad Salzedo, but then the ones that I’ve seen have always been in

Oh dear, I really thrashed it….played ffffff all the time and really crunched the “gears” over and over…I’m sure I shook at least 3 rivets loose playing the Ballade…and whacked the mechanism several times raising with wild abandon…..(tee hee hee, only teasing…) You should have charged me more for the rental! It was beautiful and too good to hire out to grubby harpists from the antipodes..

I have the wrapper – just a cloth cover – and although it was a tight fit too, it really did help protect it.

I also did just what your husband suggested

    Hi Audrey.

I brought my sharpsicle to Beginning in the Middle – it fit just fine in the overhead, but I had to be careful of everyone else’s belongings.

Yes, I have had a similar problem….a rough patch on the back of my leggies at the point where they hit the edge of the seat at the front. I changed to a type of adjustable height chair where you can slightly angle the front down lower than the back and it eases pressure on the front of the legs. It is also fabric and not that vinyl material. I have seen concert pianists with cushions, that are higher at the back than the front, and made of fabric. So, it may be a combination of the fabric, but also that there is a pressure point on your bottom and leggies on the front edge of the seat. When you think about it your legs angle downwards from the chair, but the chair cuts off the circulation by being straight.

    Try a regular cushion first.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but I just wanted to say a huge thank you all for the advice! It was very helpful, especially the suggestions about working on rhythm away from the harp. They’re absolutely perfect for my eight-year-old pupil.

Yes, it is lovely isn’t it. I played one of Carls restored harps at Camden and it was immaculate – one with a bust of Wagner on the column! (but I didn’t hold that against it!). I had a sweet tone and the workmanship was impeccible.

My harp is a Dave Fields harp. He handcrafts harps here in New Jersey, and is probably the only one left here who does. And! The bolts in the neck of the harp might be it!!! I put my ear up too it, and I hear it! =O
