Ha no. I have a Chevy Cobalt and I meant putting my back seats down and fitting the harp in through the trunk and resting on the (downward) seat backs. So utilizing the trunk AND the inside of my car, rather than laying it across my back seat (diagonally). Anyway, thanks for your input about the matrix. I actually did look into those. Unfortunately, I don’t even have a pedal harp right now, if I were to even go harp shopping. Also, I’m not really able to get a new car right now but I’ve figured out a plan! I’ll probably save another year or so for a pedal harp (or at least a down payment). Living in Chicago, theres a lot of day rental car options. I figured if I can have someone help me get it to my house, then it probably wont leave there for awhile (until I start gigging) and maybe by that point, I’ll be able to get an appropriate car to fit it. 🙂

Allison- thanks for your input! I think the only thing I could really find about them was a sort of “horror story” so its nice to hear some good input lolAre there any other companies like Allegro Acceptance that I should look into? I know L&H only accepts their financing and being that I’m in Chicago, I’ve been more specifically looking into L&H harps. However, I am making a trip to CA in a couple weeks and while I’m there I’ll be going into Salvi as I’ve never played a Salvi before. Not sure if they’re specific about financing but if not, is there anywhere else I should look or other options I might be missing?

This thread is pretty old but I’m wondering if anyone has any input on this harp? I could only find one short soundclip on youtube :/ I wish I had looked into this more before I went down to L & H a couple weeks ago but I was too excited to play harps I couldn’t afford lol. Anyone?

I don’t have experience with skype lessons- like I suggested, but I like your idea to maybe work with two teachers. If he can recommend someone to you, perhaps it might work out to work with him on skype, and his recommendation in person. In regards to the sound quality and whatnot, I understand where you’re coming from with that. Not sure if anyone else knows but I have a really nice USB BlueMic that I use on my computer and to record. I haven’t used it to record on an actual piano before (I only have a keyboard right now) but you might be able to find a mic that would work for this purpose, if you look around at different USB mics. You could always try that out and if it absolutely doesn’t work on skype with him, then you may just have to settle for the teacher that he (hopefully) could recommend to you.

Lynn, I actually live in Chicago and have been to L&H twice this year! I’m currently renting an Ogden but I know eventually I’ll want to get a pedal harp..when my finances permit and when I have a car big enough to haul one around lol. I actually went down there a week ago and played their Prelude 40 lever (which I was actually quite impressed with the sound), a Petite Chicago 40 and a style 23-which I fell in love with.I didn’t realize their Chicago line was more of a student line as I’ve heard some of their other style numbers being called “student” harps, but yes, I did notice that they were a bit smaller. I’ll probably look into these ones more next time I can make it down there.
Also! I’m going back to CA in a couple weeks to see my family and my grandparents live a couple of miles from Salvi so I’ve made an appt to go in their showroom and check out some of their harps as well 🙂
I don’t know much about Venus harps though. Are there any specific models I should look into or that anyone would recommend? I believe Venus has a showroom or factory in Chicago so that could be an option to look into as well.

Might be a long stretch but perhaps you could see if he’ll offer lessons over skype? I’ve seen a lot of teachers offer it and I don’t know how well that works but considering you’ve been his student for awhile (as opposed to being a brand new learner), it might be a viable option?
Hi Sonya! I moved to Chicago about a year ago and have been to L & H twice so I could probably offer you some insight! First, you can get just about anywhere in Chicago by their “L” train system, which would be the best choice for pretty much any trip you would make downtown lol. Theres actually a stop just about a block or two from the L & H factory. Also, there is an L train that runs from O’Hare so you probably wouldn’t need to bother with a rental car, if that is something you were questioning (unless you don’t plan on staying downtown).
Anyway, I would recommend checking out the train route maps on http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/
Scroll down to the “L” system map and you can choose how you want to view it. Maybe consider that when you’re looking for a hotel although, if you’re staying downtown, most likely there will be a stop within walking distance from where you’re at. Also if you look at hotel locations on google maps, it will show train stops if you zoom in, they’re marked by an “M” in a white square. That could help if you wanna make sure you’re close to a station.About the showroom, I’ve found it best to email Nancy O’Brien at Lyon & Healy at nancyo@lyonhealy.com
She’s helped me A LOT when I’ve been down there and getting my rental harp and also just answering any possibly question I’ve had for her. I would recommend emailing her about a week prior to your planned visit there. That way if you have any question about what harps they have in the showroom, she can answer that for you. If you have a question as to whether or not they’ll have a specific harp there that you want to play, she can let you know.
Also keep in mind, they’re only open Mon-Friday until 4pm so plan on a weekday to make your visit.
And one last thing, they offer tours of the factory which is actually really neat. You can see the whole process of how they make their harps. They offer the tour every weekday around 12 so if you’re interested in that, let Nancy know when you email her.Let me know if you have any other questions! I actually just went down there last week to play a 23, and it was AMAZZINNGGGG!!! Just sad that I work full time during the week so I can never make it down there unless I take a day off of work, otherwise I would go wayy more.
