Hi Tayce,
Can you go more into about L&H and Salvi being jointly owned? I can’t find anything online about it and was totally unaware of this! I just figured they were the two biggest competitors in the industry but also, I know that Salvi has a trade in program for both their harps AND L&H.

I’ve seen a few of her youtube videos promoting this campaign and all I got from it was that she wants to learn pedal harp and she had one before and then had to return it and we should give her money to buy a brand new Chicago CG lol.
Maria, I haven’t seen posts from her but it amazes me that people can really act like that. Maybe I’ll search around here a bit and see if I can find some past posts from her lol.
I wanna know how Aveos can hold so much! My friend fit 2 bass cabs (which are bigger than guitar cabs) a bass head, his bass guitar with a hardshell case AND was able to fit people in it. And that car seems so tiny!
*edit: he also fit a kick drum in there
Ah wow that is interesting. I wonder how you go about finding the history of harp strings lol. I’ve searched a bit on google and can find info about early harps, but not so much the strings. I’m curious about what they were first made of as well..

Just wondering, how is your Titan? I was thinking about maybe looking into getting one. I’ll be out in CA in August so I think I’m going to stop by Salvi and try it out. Have you had any other problems with yours? What do you like/dislike about it in general? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Yeah I don’t want to feel like hunched or crouching around to play my harp. Also, I feel like it might be an awkward size because it seems like it might be smaller than an average size floor lever harp, but bigger than a lap harp, so I feel like it might look silly or something. I guess it wouldn’t matter if I played it and I really REALLY liked the sound or how it plays, then I would get it, but yeah.. thats why I was curious if anyone had comparison pictures cause I’m wondering how small it actually is, compared to a person, or even compared to other harps.
Also, just a sidenote, I did search the forums for other postings about the Honda Fit and didn’t find any with feedback, just people questioning the fit. Does ANYONE have experience with the fit? I know some of those postings are a couple years old.

Oh wow that Jaguar looks like a nice car 😀 Definitely kind of a bummer to have to trade in for an Element lol but I know there has to be sacrifices when it comes to taking up harp as a hobby lol. I used to not like hatchbacks but now I’m finding myself coming around and warming up to them as that seems like it might be a good option. Like I said, I want something thats still kinda compact and would get good mileage and it seems like a hatchback or wagon might be the best fit. It just sucks that I’m trying to plan for when I might eventually invest in a pedal harp, yet I don’t ACTUALLY have a pedal harp to take around to dealers and test how it fits in the cars I want to check out :/
Just curious, has anyone had experience with a Honda Fit? My cousin has one that I know would easily fit my lever harp w/ the seats down (also, Fits are hatchbacks). I liked how spacious it is on the inside.
My biggest problem with my current car (chevy cobalt) is that I have to awkwardly place my Ogden across the backseat and it seems like it just barely fits the width of my car. That said, I wouldn’t have any room to get even a slightly bigger harp in there. It doesn’t fit through my trunk w/ the seats down because the “height” of the trunk is too shallow to allow for it to slide all the way in.
Anyway, I know eventually want to learn pedal harp. I know it will be a few years out and perhaps by that time, I will have traded up for a completely different car BUT I’m just curious, have any of you had experience/luck with getting a pedal harp inside of a Fit, or even some other sort of hatchback? I’ve only seen pedal harps in real life, one time, so I don’t really have a good estimate as far as whether or not it would fit inside that size of car. I was also looking at something that was more of a wagon, like a subaru Outback or Impreza, which might be a better idea to avoid having to upgrade to a bigger car in a few years.
Any experience with these cars or similar recommendations? I’ve seen a lot of posts from people with minivans or SUVs where harps would easily fit, but I’m looking for something a bit smaller and compact.

Question, I’ve seen this “harp that shall not be named” in another post on this forum as well. I thought it was just a clever name for that persons harp but now I’m seeing this thread. Is there actually a harp called the “harp that shall not be named”? I tried searching online but all I found were the harpcolumn posts. Is this a stupid question or did it just go over my head? lol
Not that I even know much about harps (I recently just started learning the instrument) but if your preference is for that sound, I’m sure you’re going to want to go with one of the extended soundboards, so I guess that narrows it down to 2 choices. You should probably go try them though, if you have a chance if there is one (or maybe both!) around your area? If not, just look up a lot of youtube videos and search the forums and get a lot of peoples opinions on the differences between them.
Ha yes it was quite frustrating. I can’t tell you how many times I emailed the woman that was helping me from Lyon & Healy (who has been really helpful, by the way), my harp teacher and even on this forum, looking for advice. Of course I thought something was wrong with it because 4 strings in one month seems excessive but I suppose I was overreacting a bit. Regardless, all is well now 😀

I have gut and nylon strings on my harp right now and I use them on both. The only strings I don’t use them on are the 5th and 4th octaves. (Actually I think half of the 4th octave might have them, can’t remember) I’m not sure about using them with synthetic strings. I would think that it doesn’t matter, considering that the use of them depends on the size of the hole you’re pulling the string through and whether or not your string will tie a big enough knot to prevent it from slipping through.
And actually, I think the reason that 4 of my strings broke in a month was because my harp is still “settling in” hahah. I’ve been emailing Lyon & Healy a lot, concerned about my harp but I guess it makes sense now. When I took it home, it had just been brought out of the factory a few days before. So, taking it almost straight from the factory and into my house, I guess there needed some adjustment/settling time but also, we’ve had crazy weather in Chicago. The last couple of weeks we had a few bad thunderstorms (of course I broke a string through each storm) and this week its in the 70s and 80s!? Luckily, it seems like its settling in now because I’ve found that its mostly just the replacement strings that I have to tune more than just a small tweak 🙂Hey Lyn, the string anchor is normally a small piece of thicker gut string that you tie into the knot in the 1st-3rd (sometimes into the 4th? and “zero”) octaves that prevents the knot from sliding through the string hole and helps keep it in tune.
Also, how long have you played harp that you never had to replace a string!? I just got my harp about a month ago and I’ve already had to replace 4 :/
