MemberI see that http://www.harpcenter.com has it for $8.95. This is the Sylvia Woods Harp Center in La Crescenta, California. Perhaps they could express-mail it to you in time for your Feb. 22 talk.

MemberSidney, this is too late for tomorrow, but for future talks, this booklet (47 pages) is hard to beat: Harp Scoring, by Stanley Chaloupka. This late harpist was Principal Harp of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for many years. His booklet was self-published in 1979 and was for sale by Salvi Harps and perhaps elsewhere, for $5.00. Do try to find a copy; you will not regret it!

MemberElena,
You inquired about games to help young students with harp, etc. I have Rhythmaticity on my studio computer, and after several lessons and also clapping certain rhythms with a metronome, I let some students try matching one finger on

MemberIt would help if you mentioned whether in May you are driving or flying, when you make the move, and also from which area you are coming. You may need an item called a Space Blanket over those instruments if they are transported into any extreme heat in Texas, for example; it can deflect heat away from delicate things.

MemberAsk a friend to come over with one of those steel measuring tapes that pull out of a palm-sized container, and have a locking device at the side for keeping the tape extended where you choose. Go to your Troubadour harp without a chair but bend your knees behind it until, with your arms extended forward as if to play, but without raising your shoulders, they are comfortably in the middle of the strings. Have the friend measure from your bottom, to the floor and lock the tape so the number of inches can be read by both of you. Now you can staighten yourself out of that uncomfortable position!

MemberSylvie, yes, I remember Harvi Griffin, an amazing harpist, who indeed has passed away. I also, like Dale, have his cassette; mine is called “The Other Side”. On it are these

MemberDaniele, have you contacted Pilgrim Harps in Surrey, or Morley Harps, to ask whether a pedal harp might be available for rent? Otherwise, you could think about attending the Edinburgh Festival of Music in mid August, where there might be harp companies displaying their instruments for sale, as well as harpists you could ask about rental possibilities. If you visit United Kingdom Harpists Association on the web, and possibly join, you will find many contacts to ask about renting a pedal harp. They have a printed bulletin in which a member could post a “wanted” notice; it is read by hundreds of subscribers. The President is sionedwilliams.com. She would be very knowledgeable about sources. Teachers frequently rent an extra harp

MemberSid, other than checking whether other harpmaking companies could supply that bronze touch-up you need, another source might be the specialists who work with museums to repair or touch up elaborate picture frames of gold or bronze tones. Large antique establishments would know of gilders who touch up their damaged goods, and large art supply stores might carry the materials as well.

MemberMany years ago I bought a harp soundboard decal that was offered for sale by Carl Swanson. Perhaps those are still available. Along with the decal came directions for applying it.

MemberSara, if you go to http://www.remenyi.com, it brings you to the website of Remenyi House of Music in Toronto, ON, at 200 Bloor Street West. It is right across the street from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and has been in business since 1890. On the site you can ask your question and I feel sure that if you give details such as wishing to rent a lever or pedal harp, they will have answers for you. Good luck!

MemberIf the harp is your own property, choose the finish according to your very own preference, since you will probably play at different places than church, also. Where I live we have a lot of gray skies and rain, and lighter wood is often chosen for furniture instead of dark, to lighten up the interior of homes. Listen to the tone of several harps with different finishes and make your final choice on the tone that most pleases your ear.
