ParticipantI don’t have the actual sheet music, but I found an amazing recording of it here:

It sounds like two harps. I don’t know if your harpist can transcribe it into sheet music from the recording, but that recording seems best. Good luck!

Participantoops I typed my reply to you down in Carl’s reply. Thank you both for answering my question. I would be so lost without harpcolumn!

ParticipantThanks for the encouragement. I replaced 3 strings in the 5th octave with nylon. It was really hard working with the string, tying the knot at the bottom, and guessing the proper amount of slack to leave so that when tuned it would have about 3 winds on the peg. I have restrung an entire harp before, less the bass wires, but then I went so long without doing it I forgot.

Participantthanks everybody for the reply. I will keep that in mind about the better quality sound. For the interim, I will use the nylon strings I bought, but in the long run I’ll look forward to having gut (not not looking forward to having to restring them all, what a chore!).

Participantjust throwing a guess out there, but could it be that now that school is winding down, you’re unprepared to handle an unstructured world where there are no semesters, no tests, and no classes/teachers guiding you to success? A lot of good academics have this problem in other fields. They are great students, get straight As, but have difficulty adjusting from academia to a work environment.
If that’s what your problem is, it’s definitely something you can overcome by setting up plans and goals for yourself.

The best thing is just to ignore it, but if you really
want to fight back, I suggest writing them back and ACTING
like you are falling for the scam. Let them send you a bogus
check, don't cash it, then play dumb. Say you never got it,
ask them why they sent you extra money, even though they already
told you. ask them redundant questions, make small talk, anything
to waste as much of their time as possible. Think about it, if
everyone did this, they couldn't tell the difference between
someone actually falling for it or someone messing with them.

ParticipantI think he’s asking about exercising at the gym. Like if there are bicep curls or chin ups, etc, that would develop the specific muscle groups to maintain the endurance of holding your left arm out for so long. I’ve wondered this too, because I’m a n00b as well and my forearm can begin to hurt after 20-30m of practice.

ParticipantI’m glad you’ve thought these things out. I’m particularly glad you have the backup battery as well. As you may already know, batteries decline over time, so a brand new ipad might run for 10 hours, but with with one year of heavy use the battery could easily wear out to 4-5 hours (those aren’t the actual numbers, and since I don’t own an ipad I can’t say for certain ).

ParticipantHow do you trust something that has a limited battery life ? Or could potentially fall victim to a software glitch ? I’m a computer programmer by trade, and harp amateur for

ParticipantYou could tell a little fib and say that you would use a large harp but it might be too loud for the venue.

ParticipantKreig and Stan,
Thank you for sharing. I apparently misunderstood the lifetime of soundboards! This has definitely changed my opinion of this harp. I will make it out to view it in a couple weeks.
Richard, thank you very much for the very resourceful link.
I know this is a bit like trying to be your own doctor, so for anyone in the future who reads this and is in a similar situation, let me disclose that I’m aware I’m taking a risk that – in the worst-case scenario – could spell a financial disaster. So do not do what I’m doing unless you are comfortable with the potential consequences of inexperience.
( I am going to look anyway to see if I can find a harp tech nearby…)

ParticipantCarl, you’re right – I measured it from the wrong spot initially. I missed the part about the brass plate. When I measured it correctly it’s about 1 3/4″. I suppose it’s probably not worth all the trouble to only add a quarter inch. I’ll try the full concert grand at my next lesson and see how much different it feels.

Participantwow, thanks for the information everyone.
