I have a Webster 18th Century and it is a totally beautiful harp. Mine is stung with pedal gut and wire-wound basses. The sound is comparable to my full pedal harps and I use it frequently for jobs playing out because it is light weight and yet has a warm and beautiful full sound. Webster harps are totally beautiful in every respect. I’m saving up now to buy a M.Cadillac from him as a companion harp for my teaching studio. You can see a photo of my 18th Century on my profile page. Best, Mark Andersen

It was the episode that aired on April 24. I have seen the gold 23 before and realized that it was being played but this it was one of the new “bronze” 23s that are painted bronze and mahogany. The person sitting behind it was making some motions with “claw” hands (using all five fingers) and the movement bore no semblance to what we heard. The sound was definitely a synthesizer. Very disappointing. I do know that they have used a real harpist in the past.

I have used Paypal many times for deposits and for accepting final payments. I’ve never had a single problem. Paypal is very fair when it comes to people requesting refunds. they will listen to both sides of the story. I’ve never had a payment pulled through them.

I love the decals from harpdecals.com but I think you should also look at the wonderful work from Deborah Ethier who does truly beautiful custom soundboard decals. She recently did a complete Victorian themed set for my Erard style harp and I’m thrilled with the results. Deb’s website is: http://www.harpymusic.com/decals.htm

Her name would have been Kippy Lou Brinkman at that time.

The girl in the boat at the Dunes was Kippy Lou Scott. Kippy is still a member of our Greater Seattle Chapter.

I’m absolutely thrilled to hear this news. I would LOVE a pedal harp in carbon fiber, even if it were to be a single action harp, I’d still love it.

The sound of these new Heartland CF harps is spectacular. I just wish they made a more “concert” looking model similar to the L&H Prelude. So many of my playing jobs could be done on one of these and for someone dealing with Multiple Sclerosis it would be a God-send. Unfortunately at present my jobs all call for a concert style harp rather than a Celtic style so I’ll be watching their website and as soon as they offer something in a more classical style, I’ll grab the checkbook.

Many thanks for the great innovations and additions to the world of harps.

I think that you’ve handled the situation absolutely correct Carl. And, by the way I totally agree with you. I got the opportunity to see a lot of “malfunctioning harps” by that certain builder this past summer.

    Hi Gregory,
The website looks really nice. It is very informative without being too much of a sales pitch. Personally I would have liked to see a video clip or two of your playing or at least a couple of audio clips. If you don’t want to take up a lot of space on the server you could always post your clips to YouTube and then link to them on your site. Other than that you’ve done an excellent job.

I have a L&H Silhouette solid body that I absolutely love. I’ve added my own MIDI interface to it manufactured by Artisan Instruments in Seattle, WA and the result is a harp that is ultimately portable, outputs MIDI information for use in Finale for publishing music, and easy to play with a tension very similar to my L&H 23. I couldn’t be happier with it. My good friend Deborah Henson Conant plays a Camac solid body and loves that as well.

If I’m going to play an acoustic harp then I actually prefer to play a completely acoustic non-amplified harp. Just my personal preference of course.

Yes, absolutely. We’re the host chapter for the 2010 conference in Tacoma, WA. There will be some really exciting things at the conference. You can see preview information at http://www.ahsconference.org

Patricia Wooster is planning the conference with the assistance of professional harpists from our area. I’d also be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the event.

    Hi Nancy,

The piece is in the key of F with an occasional Eb and Db thrown in but as long as you tune your B, E, and D string to their flats you should be fine. Start the piece with the Bb and the E and D natural
You’ll find that the opening section moves between the chords of F major and A minor then it moves through a Bb and Eb chord. At the end of the first section you’ll need the Db for a moment.. Start by picking out ONLY the melody:
    A C F G F E C etc. and you’ll soon find your way through the chords.

    All the best,
    Mark

    Hi Carl,

What a wonderful Easter gift you’ve given us all by sharing that video. I’m sending this to the people I care about this Easter. The technique in this video is so beautiful and to think that he is playing this unedited is breathtaking. The beauty of it brought tears to my eyes.
