All: Just a friendly reminder that we do not allow posts that contain advertising in the forums. Since there was so much discussion here I’ve left the thread intact while removing the originally posted catalog, however I’m now closing this thread.
Kimberly RoweKeymasterSince this thread was veering in two different directions, we’ve created a separate thread where you can discuss the Professional Ethics of What to Charge. Some posts that originally appeared here have been moved to the new thread. As a resource for harpists, we ask that you keep this original thread limited to discussion of what you charge to play professionally in your area. Be sure to tell us where you live when you post your rates. (Give a geographic region if you don’t want to be specific about your exact location.)
We welcome discussion about ethics (volunteering, undercutting, students playing for free, etc.) in the other thread. We’ve made both of these threads “sticky” in this forum so you can find them both easily!
Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi all: Just wanted to pipe in here and mention that the November/December 2013 issue of Harp Column included the article “Finding THE Harp,” which included charts of information for all the major makes of pedal and lever harps. We included price, number of strings, available finishes, and special features.
Rhett Barnwell was the author for the lever harp portion of the article, and Erin Wood compiled our pedal harp information.

Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Terry:
Wow, I’m genuinely sorry you are so dis-satisfied with our site, since I am the one who did all of the design work. We try very hard to please, and we try very hard to make it easy for people to contact us by displaying our contact information clearly at the bottom of every page as well as in our Staff Directory.
Many times I use a link rather than printing our email address within text, as it cuts down on the amount spam we receive to our address. You can always right click on a link to copy the link address, or in this case the email address. You may want to check your browser settings, as our email links do not point specifically to any particular mail client.
I’ve gone ahead and removed your ad. Please feel free to contact me directly if we can help you further.

Kimberly RoweKeymasterEmma: I have to echo Sylvia’s concern! I had a cat that used to do that and I thought it was so cute until one day I came home and my harp was on the floor badly damaged. Really, not kidding. I didn’t think there was any way she could actually knock it over, but it clearly didn’t fall over by itself. That particular cat is no longer with us, but since then I’ve made a rule to never leave the cover on a harp with a cat in the house. They just love to climb them!
Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi everyone:
OK, I believe we have solved this mystery. This issue seems to be related to threads created on our old website that you responded to. Whenever those threads pop up on our new site (a few have come up recently) you will get an email notification when someone replies.
A brief bit of background: since many users said they missed email notifications on our old site, we made sure that feature was available on the new site. So currently at the top of every forum thread is the option to “subscribe”, in which case you will get an email notification every time someone replies to that thread. When we made the transition to this site, you were automatically subscribed to some of our older threads.
Solution: When you receive an email notification, just click the link in the email, which will take you to the thread, and then click “unsubscribe.” Note: You will need to be logged in to harpcolumn.com to see the “unsubscribe” option.
We apologize for this glitch. We had hoped the plugin Hugh mentioned would correct it, but it looks like the only way to stop receiving the email is to manually “unsubscribe” from a thread you don’t wish to receive updates from. Since the old threads pop up occasionally, you may continue to notice emails from time to time.
Please try this and let me know if it solves the problem. We think that it will. Email us directly if you continue to have issues.

Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Gretchen: Just weighing in to comment that it is probably not OK to post the sheet music for this song—therefore I have removed the link from this thread. I couldn’t tell from the site it came from whether the copyright owner had given permission for the music to be posted or not, but it didn’t appear so. Our site terms do stipulate that users not share copyrighted material.
I’ll let someone else weigh in about the rest of Gretchen’s question!

Kimberly RoweKeymasterThanks Gretchen, we are really excited to have some of Gary’s new pieces on Harp Column Music! In addition to the solo, we have some of his new harp duo and ensemble pieces, edited by Emily Mitchell, that I’m in the process of adding. I’ll be sending out an email announcement in the next few days. You can see all of Gary’s pieces here.

Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Brittany:
I love playing Andres “Garden of Peacocks.” If you are up for a challenge, Caroline Lizotte’s “Raga” is really fun, but it takes quite a bit of work (along with percussion instruments….).
Kimberly RoweKeymasterThanks Diane! Please keep suggestions coming.
Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Diane:
We can basically choose what sidebars get displayed where. I see that for individual group forums it’s not automatically displaying the “forums” sidebar and instead it’s displaying the “main” sidebar. I’ll poke around and see if I can make that happen anytime someone starts a new group. I am open to suggestions for how to make the forum navigation the easiest for everyone!

Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Allison:
You can access your blogs through the MusicStand link, but not the main blogs. I will check into this more for you.

Kimberly RoweKeymasterCould not agree more! The programming was really great. They were all amazing but Marie-Pierre was definitely a standout for me as well. Did you go to her masterclass? Unbelievable listening to her demonstrate phrasing and voicing. I want a lesson.
Kimberly RoweKeymasterHi Allison:
Blogs will not be synced automatically, but you can still access them at old.harpcolumn.com. Let us know if you need more help.
Kim
Kimberly RoweKeymasterYes, it was a great conference Briggsie! Sorry we didn’t meet you in person…
