I’ve been away from harp column for a long time. What wonderful, joyous news to read! I’m joining everyone else sending the most positive thoughts and prayers for a continued fantastic recovery and many happy, active years together. I too am a donor and have made this wish clear to my family. This is truly a miraculous life giving and life affirming gift that you have received. They say that God only gives you challenges you can deal with. God must think very highly of you and your family. Thank you for taking time to inform and comment on all you’ve been through. You will touch lives that you may never know about. Wishing all the best through out the coming year and always.

Lyn, your new harp, Eleni, is a work of art! I’m getting harp envy to the point where I’m about to order one I’ve been lusting after for years! I’m going for a Thormahlen Swan in Koa with concert gut strings! It’ll be a while but worth the wait. To all with their new harps, hearty congratulations!!!

Deb, I predict you will fall head over heels for your Anna! I still love my Prelude best of all! It just feels like home every time I sit down to play, no other harp except an Anna I’ve played feels quite the same. Could this be the end of all your searching? Perhaps not but I think you will be so very content for a long while. I can’t wait to see your pictures!

Hi! I can really appreciate the thought you are putting into your preparations and the great advice everyone has offered. My addition to this discussion includes thoughts about the everyday ins and outs. Think about where the harp will be in your home. A spot where she can quietly play but easy to get to several times a day. A spot where the harp can be moved to the car without climbing stairs and bumping furniture. A spot where younger siblings won’t also “practice” her harp. Also consider finding a group of harp kids who play together even once a month. Sometimes it can seem lonely unless you have a gathering or cohort to look forward to. As you know, kids are so social and want to belong. That means you, and other like minded parents, turning into the harp equals of soccer and ballet moms. Good luck with all of this. Let me end by saying I’ve really never met more wonderful people than those I’ve met in my harp circle of friends.

I’m also trying to get used to this new format. I’m really hoping they follow through and get all the “old”posts back up. There was a lot of really good information there. I just thought I’d alaways have it at hand so never took notes.

Make sure you have someone play them both for you to hear. That might help you chose. You can order the Dusty in any wood you want and the wood does make a world of difference. You won’t be sorry with koa or bubinga.

    Good luck!

Debbie, I started in my early fifties and I think its the best personnal choice I’ve ever made. I echo everyone’s thoughts and would add that I have met some of the most wonderful people I could ever hope to associate with. Playing the harp continues to enrich my life in surprising ways. I say GO FOR IT!

Yep! I always greet my harp with a big hello and a hug just because its fun!

Deb, you are so much fun to follow in the forums! Always up to something new! Did you ever start your ballet class? Did it help with your music?

I think you should have three harps! The two you have plus a little one, like a Dusty FH26, that you can haul around really easily. That’s is what I’m settling on for right now. It really works out great! Prelude holds court at home while Ogden goes out for harp circle and classes, FH26 is my “picnic harp” and is great for hard to get to places. They all get spoken to and

Kay, I’m wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! It must be tough to stay away from your harp but keep thinking of the long run. Maybe an extra week away is worth the extra healing that rest will give…

I bought my Ogden 2nd hand from someone who I believe got tired of the string breakage. When I went to see the harp it was missing three strings in the upper 2 octaves. I loved the sound and so I bought it. Many strings later I took it into a local shop where they took a rasp to the eyelet areas. It seems to have helped. I’ve had a couple more break at the tuning pins but that’s a more normal breakage I think… I just love the way this harp sounds so for now, at that price, it’s a keeper!
