cynthy-johnsonParticipantWhen I was taught and played liturgical organ, from age 6 through college, I played and practiced 5 hours a day; that was before school, after school, and after homework.
When I started to learn to play pedal harp, years ago, I practiced between 5-6 hours per day. However I divided the practice session into blocks of time due to how much my hands could tolerate. The pedal harp was new, and developing blisters and callouses was new, too.
cynthy-johnsonParticipantThis IS a wonderful thread!
I am thankful for my first pedal harp teacher, without her patience, I would be able to play harp.
I am thankful for my lever harp teachers, Tina Tourin, Kim Robertson and Frank Voltz, without them, I would not have understood the differences in style.
I am thankful for my occupational therapist who helped to teach me how to stretch the small muscle and the ligaments in my hands so that I can keep playing harp when my doctor told I could not play any longer.
I am thankful for all my harp students; they help me to learn and learn again.
I am thankful for all the wonderful means of communication among harpists; the AHS Journal , the ISFHC Journal,
cynthy-johnsonParticipantI just received my copy of DHC’s recently published Baroque Flamenco.
cynthy-johnsonParticipantHi Karen,
Yes, I did help Pamela Bruner with ALL 3 of her self-teaching books. I edited all 3 of the books (my name is inside the book’s cover) and provided itemtized content for the 2nd book and the 3rd book.
The book, “Midsummer’s Meadow”, is the book that I was what I was thinking, when I suggested Pamela’s book for lap harp, mid-sized, and 36-string harp. I think it is a wonderful book to utilize for learning pieces for various sized-harps and/or levels.
Tom – regarding harps .. I have had the opportunity to learn on pedal harp and own 2 L&H pedal harps.
cynthy-johnsonParticipantThe most beautiful place in the World?
cynthy-johnsonParticipantJust as in pedal harps, tone and quality in lap harps counts too!
