ParticipantI don’t think that either of those makers make a starter harp in the price range of the Ravenna 26.
Jenny, I’ve had several professionals play my Ravenna, and they’ve all been impressed by the outstanding tone and overall quality.

ParticipantWhat’s wrong with the Ravenna?

ParticipantIt’s going to vary a lot Anna, and there are going to be a lot of factors:
1) The difficulty of the tune
2) The difficulty of the arrangement
3) How much time you have to devote to practice
4) How involved you are with the tune (it’s a lot easier to learn a tune or an arrangement that you love!)
5) Your own dexterity
6) Your own, innate, ability to learn and retain music
These are going to vary from harper to harper, and from circumstance to circumstance.

ParticipantIf you possibly can, I’d get C and F levers right off.

ParticipantSylvia Woods “Teach Yourself to Play the Folk Harp” will work quite well for a Harpsicle as well.

ParticipantNo prob!
One of the nice things about these “multi-level” books is that, as she progresses, and becomes able to play the more advanced arrangements, the simpler arrangements still work very well as a way to vary the performance.

Participant“Fake books” probably aren’t much use to you at this stage, as they’re generally just lead sheets.

ParticipantI agree with Tony here.

ParticipantI think what it comes down to with the Pakis is, unlike most harps, they are neither made by professional luthiers nor in regulated factories.
