Hannah Haynes’s I am the Light of the World is for baritone soloist and 2-part choir (sopranos and altos). This piece is part of Haynes’s series based on the “I am” sayings of Jesus, with words by Helen Rongong. When the series is performed as a complete suite, the processional and recessional are sung at the beginning and end. The processional and recessional do not involve harp. They are intended to be sung whilst walking and carrying candles. The way in which the vocal parts interweave in the recessional was inspired by the carol “Three Kings from Persian Lands Afar.” Scroll down for links to all movements of the suite.
