Salvi Titan Harp – problems

Hi, I have hired a Salvi Titan lever harp with a view to buy but was wondering if anyone else has one and has any problems with theirs? In the shop there were two Titans and one of them had levers needing tightened and moved around slightly – minor problems but still off putting. The one I chose was better but still, I am starting to suspect that the wood is not strong enough inside the harp / the inside of the soundboard, because where the strings are knotted, they seem to be damaging the wood and I think, without a lot of time, the knots may actually pull ‘through’ the wood with the pressure of the strings… Just tried to photograph it but can’t.

This is my second harp and I’m just wondering if anyone has heard anything similar of Titans!

Miggles, I don’t have any experience with Titan harps, but the strings on the back of my lever harp make divots in the string strip. That’s normal because of the tension on the strings. If it worries you, you might try using leather washers between the wood of the harp and your knots. They are inexpensive; VT Strings sells them for $0.25/ea.

Thanks, I had a harp previously (Aoyama) and it didn’t seem to be so damaged in this part by the strings. It would be a great idea for all harps to have your suggestion in place!!!!

Hi Miggles,

Just wondering, how is your Titan? I was thinking about maybe looking into getting one. I’ll be out in CA in August so I think I’m going to stop by Salvi and try it out. Have you had any other problems with yours? What do you like/dislike about it in general? Any feedback would be appreciated!
