I’ve recently helped a friend restring his harp with these buttons, and I LOVE them. They made the task a lot easier. I highly recommend them.

Has anyone compared a Dusty Strings FH26 double strung harp with a Marine Bass 30 -string double-strung harp? I have also considered the Rees double-strung harps, but they’re a bit larger than I’d to cart around. I’ve just sold mydo pedal harp, and I am thinking of delving into the double strung world. I already have a Dusty Strings FH34S and a 34-string Ravenna.I also have a Heartland Infinity CF harp. I’m considering trading in the Ravenna toward a double strung, as I try to downsize my harp fleet, while trying new techniques after 50 plus years :). Many thanks for any insights anyone might have.

    Hi David,

I’m in Southeast Alaska with intermittent internet access. You can email me at tonieogi@me.com.

    Best regards,

Yes, I think the lack of email response is the bigger issue. I saw some improvement a couple of weeks ago, when when they arranged for me to have the harp shipped back to them. I was subsequently hoping for some communication about the progress of all that. But once again, my queries about the progress have gone unanswered for quite some time. Now, through Facebook, I have noticed that Heartland is on the road again, so I don’t know if anyone is tending the shop in Dave’s absence, or what the revised timeline for the shipping of the harp will be. I kept thinking that maybe I had the wrong contact information, but now I’ve learned that others have had similar communication issues. I’m hesitant to publicly go into all the details, as I think the harps are a good design, and Dave is a good guy. I just see the need for improvement on the communication end of things. Again, I’m relieved to hear that your issue has been resolved.

I’m glad to hear that this has been resolved for you. I have a Heartland Infinity. Consistent email or phone communication with Heartland has been challenging for me over the years. Dave was indeed great when he came out to visit in California a few years ago, but I’m still waiting for a resolution to a repair/warranty issue. I’m just wondering if other Heartland owners have had similar experiences. I’m in the midst of moving to a remote area next month, so I was hoping to have the issue resolved before then. I trust that the issue will be resolved eventually.

    Hi Lyle,

Did you ever get any response on what you needed to repair your harp? Or are you still waiting?

Thank you, Lyle!  I finally heard back from  them yesterday. It seems like they might need an office assistant to handle phone calls and emails.

Hopefully you’ll also hear back soon.

    Thanks Barbara!
I’d say Florida sounds like a good “test” for both humidity and marine climate. My Hawaii house is actually further from the coast than my California house. So far, my harps have not suffered from from salt air, and I live within a mile of the beach in California. I wonder most about the humidity. I think a dehumidifier might be a reasonable solution, if I get worried about it. My L&H 85 P has no gold, so that’s one less worry. I also have a carbon fiber fiber harp that I don’t worry about at all. I also have a note to both Sylvia Woods and Bonnie Mitchell on the subject.

Thanks to everyone for weighing in on this.

Yes, it would be great to hear more about this. I have exchanged emails with a harpist on the Kona side, as well. I haven’t had any issues with salt air on the Central Coast of California. But we don’t have the high humidity here. My Hawaii move is still a couple of years off, but I have been wondering about this as time moves on. I appreciate everyone’s insight here.

This thread seems very harp-related to me :)! I’m wondering if anyone here has insights on harps in very humid climates. We’ve just bought a home near Hilo, Hawaii, where rain is measured in feet. I have not yet moved my harp there from the Central Coast of California, but I am thinking about it in the next couple of years. I’m worried about too much constant humidity, and the effect of that on the harp. The home requires neither heat nor air conditioning, because of the the trade winds that flow through. But I do worry about the nearly constant rainy climate.

I have an Infinity, which I just love for all of my travels and classroom work. I had similar issues just with trying to set up payment for my harp. Dave has been so busy traveling, that it sometimes seems like it’s hard for him to get to his email. I have also been searching for information on pricing for the Starlight model. I’m thinking of replacing my L&H pedal harp with it. I would love to have some sort of ballpark idea of pricing, but can’t seem to find that information anywhere. Does anyone out there have any idea?

    Hi Cyndee,

I actually had a similar problem a couple of years ago. It turned out to be bursitis in my hip. I did some physical therapy and got over it, none worse for the wear. I took my harp chair into my physical therapy to show my position at the harp. We made some adjustments to the seat, and that seemed to help. This happened in my late forties, and I’m fifty now, with no hip issues at the moment. Maybe physical therapy would be another option to consider.

Hope this helps, and happy harping!

I’ve been playing my 36-string Infinity in parts of Southeast Alaska on a 26-foot boat, and on the Inside Passage ferry. I love it, and the people for whom I’ve played seem to love it too. I love not worry about temperature changes. It has withstood cold, damp, rainy conditions, as well as a couple days in a hot trunk of a car. It also withstands the occasional “thunk” that happens around boats without a scratch, and it sounds great. The sound filled the forward observation lounge of the Alaska ferry, and prompted enthusiastic applause.

At my California home, I also play an L&H 85P.
