Sounds perfect Marco! I’m glad you are better. I’ve had company in so that’s my excuse for this week’s lack of practice. 😛

I don’t have a new harp, but my precious L&H 85petite is becoming one of my favorite sounding harps. I recently had a chance to hear a couple different harp makers for the first time, and it opened my eyes (ears) to how warm of a tone my little pedal harp gets. Everyone should be proud of their harp, it’s a wonderful feeling!

Wow my Aunt would love that bling-bling harp! Or younger girls who liked princesses! Oh or disco queens! Hahaha, I actually kind of like it, but I don’t think I’d ever want to own it.

Ooh I’ve wondered about this myself. Unfortunately I have no knowledge to share, but I would love to see where this post goes!

Thanks so much Marco! I hope I can pretty them up and get them under my fingers.

What a beauty Marco! You appropriately named her. 🙂 I would love to see a video too, I haven’t much experience with Camac’s.

Thank you so much! What would I do without my harp column friends? You all are on it. 🙂

Stephanie, your list was perfect! I can start ordering now. And I actually owned one of them already! I didn’t know Can’t Help Falling was in the Groovy 60’s book, thank you for saving me an expense.

    God bless you all!

This one is invaluable. The PDF version you can print yourself, or buy the hard copy which is lamented.

Hannah the link to the article was broken, do you know of where else I could find it? It sounded interesting. 🙂

Check by the nut, it may be sharp. Look and feel around anywhere the string touches, see if there are any points or bumps that could be the cause.

My dress I mentioned earlier can NOT be worn to the beach… I almost learned the hard way. *major blush*

I think you have to be comfortable, I completely agree that that is what it boils down to. Although I will stand firmly by, “when in doubt wear black!”

I have played a lyon and Healy lever harp, and a camac lever harp. I don’t know what model the camac was, the L&H was a prelude.

I completely preffered the Camac! The tone was so much more clean and clear than I thought it could be. L&H obviously prefer pedal harps (and I haven’t played any other pedals to compare it with, but I think the sound can’t be beat) , I’m pretty sure they make lever harps just because… You need to have a few lever models too. Camac has their DHC series, which are electric lever harps, so I believe they’ve worked on the quality of their lever harps more. Now that is merely conjecture.

Also you can’t know a harp until you play it. I live in south Florida, so I’m reeeeeally far away from most harp makers. I ordered my 85petite pedal on blind faith from my teacher. I have dream harps I want (Salzedo, Princess Sakura, etc) but my little beauty doesn’t disappoint me. I recently purchased a carbon fiber Delight lever, and I adore it’s sound and portability! Shop around and find what works for you. (If you want portable, nothing beats a heartland harp!)

In my humble opinion, go camac for a lever, L&H for a pedal, and either harp you would love for life!

I openly asked several guy friends at the time to watch out for me… Now I have a boyfriend who was there at the time and made sure I was never alone with creeper guy!

I have never been approached by anyone remotely strange while playing the harp though, I am very happy to say. I’ve had strangers take videos while walking by, that’s about the weirdest.

That was a good one! Frank Sinatra’s agents and the UFO people sound difficult to escape conversation with.

The same creeper with the squirrels told me I was the fruit at the top of the tree, and all the other (exact quote) ‘sluts’ were rotting on the ground…

For weddings I have a dress I usually wear. The skirt is light but enormous when you pull it out, so I can tuck the extra between my legs and look very appropriate. It is in my website’s gallery (www.harpsoup.com) if you wanted to see. Black, gray, and white. 🙂 It comes past my knees, otherwise NO SHORTY SHORT DRESSES.

Otherwise I wear dress pants, with pretty tops. In VERY casual settings I’ve played in jeans and a t-shirt! I would play in pants for a wedding, as long as I was classy and clean cut, I would be comfortable and I’ve never had anyone complain.

The book is AMAZING. At least if you are a “gurl”. Her definition is priceless and I consider this an invaluable tool for someone as technically challenged as me.

I love this community too! What a wonderful harp world we live in. O’Carolan would be jealous of our connections. 😛
