ParticipantDeb,
Is there any way you can get someone knowledgeable to look at it directly and assess what it needs (hopefully, for a not exorbitant price).

ParticipantDeb,
This was before your time on this forum, but I built a harp from scratch (a wire-strung using wider spacing between the strings than a wire-strung typically has), and described my efforts in probably too tedious detail.michael-rockowitz
ParticipantNorah,
I think I’ll place here the usual shameless plug for the cross-strung harp – way cheaper than the pedal harp, you’re less like to injure yourself transporting it, you won’t need a new vehicle, and you can play almost any music you can get your hands on (although you’ll have the limits of the range of the harp to contend with, depending on the size of the cross-strung you own).michael-rockowitz
ParticipantI’ve also struggled with craigslist harps.

ParticipantAnita,
I play cross-strung, and finding a used one to buy may not be easy.

ParticipantPat,
I’d like to see the pictures of this harp, but I can’t get the link for your blog at

ParticipantRaye,
You’ll find this site very helpful, I think: http://www.sligoharps.com/plans.michael-rockowitz
ParticipantDeb,
I don’t own a pedal harp, and don’t wish to.

ParticipantDeb,
Just curious – won’t the parrots pose peculiar problems regardless of which harp you purchase (forgive the silly alliteration!)?July 25, 2010 at 2:08 pm in reply to: a favour please if you have an Atlantide and a tape measure… #73655michael-rockowitz

ParticipantJust for completeness, here’s the same set of chord changes for Inis Oirr, but in the key of G, which the notation that Karen Johns directed us to is written in:

ParticipantKaren,
I played with your chords, they’re also very pretty for the melody.michael-rockowitz
ParticipantRenate, Karen,
Since Renate directed me to a tune I thoroughly enjoyed in the past (Nightingale, by D. Henson-Conant) I thought I’d check out this other tune she likes -“Inis Oirr- I find I also like that very much.
Karen, the chords you’ve given don’t fit the versions I’ve encountered.

ParticipantAs a correction and for information’s sake – my error in posting 4 was in not entering the diameter of the winding itself onto the spreadsheet, which would have given a very different result for the string tension of the wound string (i.e., considerably higher)-
