    Hi Kay,

I rely on my trusting chiropractor once a week to take away the pain from harp playing as well as the schlepping involved. He’s marvelous and I really recommend a good chiropractor if you’re having any pain in any parts of your body–especially neck and back pain related to harp.

I had a student who competed in a competition for all instruments, but in the string category. Like the competition Lynn was in, the judge was a pianist for the finals. My student had won the string category; however, the pianist said she used too much pedal!! The funny thing is that to the amazement of everyone, the overall winner was a RECORDER player who won over the pianists, voice and Brass.
I figured something was up. Could it be who you know?

    Hi Natalie,

You can get Paul Baker’s arrangement of “Can you feel the Love tonight (Lion King) from Vanderbilt music. I would also ask them if they have harp arrangements of any of the other pieces.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Yes, I think it is a pretty weird song for a Wedding. I think it’s another of those tunes– like “A Thousand Years” that “the kids” listen to and the words have more meaning than the actual music. Without the words with just a harp or harp and violin, the song doesn’t have meaning. I try to discourage brides and suggest they get a singer and we’d accompany the singer.

Helen Rogers lived in North Dakota. I knew her a little and saw her at Harp Conferences. Maybe this will help.

I wear Black Velvet Pants and a Black Top for outdoor (beach) Weddings. Most of the harpists I know wear pants, A dress doesn’t work with wind! I’ve had no complaints from Brides at all. If black pants and black top are good for Symphony women in major Symphonie to wear, certainly it looks professional and furthermore you don’t have to worry about ‘no-seeum’s getting up your skirt and biting you.

    Hi David,

It sounds great. I would be interested. Would it be downloaded from the computer or are you going to publish it? By any chance would you be coming to the AHS National Conference in New Orleans in June? could I get it there? The Naples Harp Ensemble is going to be performing—want to join us?

Either the Susann Mcdonald/ Linda Wood is great. Sylvia Woods has an easier version, but yet played by professionals.

I have a L and H 22 and a Toyota Sienna Van. It works great and I have room for music, music stand and two benches. I can also fit in a troubadour. I love it.

    Hi Melissa,

Contact Ron. Hopefully he can help you out for Rite of Spring.

    Ronerick@Earthlink.net.

February 21-23 has been set as of today for the Naples Harp Festival Weekend.

There is no cost to register and Dickie has harps available to use free of charge.

We just hope Liz Hainen will be available and have Master class, workshops and a concert on Feb. 22.

Ron arranged Symphony Fantastique, (Berlioz), Stravinsky, Pucinella, and Prokofiev, Peter and the Wolf for us. Then New Orleans we’re playing 1812 Overture- Tschaikovsky and Sheherazade as well as Philip Glass meets “Good Vibrations” among other works.

We hope you can join us. I think Dickie would bring a harp to New Orleans too, so you wouldn’t have to bring a harp.

    Hi again Melissa,

It looks like my answer to your blog got cut.

    Contact Ron Erickson, Ronerick@Earthlink.net.

He’s my violinist duo partner and said he’d be interested in hearing from you.

Ron is in the process of making a 3 harp ensemble part for Rite of Spring
from the Piano Part. He was surprised a wind ensemble is attempting it.

    Maybe he can help out.

    Best, Barbara Kraichy

    Hello Melissa,

Do you remember Barbara Rosnyk? I believe you were with her at I. U. Anyway, I was her first harp teacher in Winnipeg. I think of Barbara often. So sad, her passing so young. I’ve wondered how her parents are in Edmonton.

Anyway, the reason I am answering your blog about “The Rite of Spring” is that my violin duo partner. (We both live in Southwest Florida) is in the process of making a 3 harp ensemble part of “The Rite of Spring” from the piano part. He was intrigued that they’re attempting it with Wind Ensemble. I spoke with him and he’d be interested in talking with you– via e-mail. His name is Ron Erickson and his e-mail is ronerick@earthlink.net

Ron has arranged several Symphonic pieces for the Naples Harp Ensemble in Naples, Florida (Dickie Fleisher, Principal Harp of the Naples Phil is our director. )We perform a series of 4 concerts a year and we have a Harp Festival weekend every year. This year it will be February 21, 22 and 23. Pending, we have Elizabeth Hainen, Principal Harpist in the Philadelphia Orchestra, as our guest artist. We’ll have ensemble rehearsals, a Master Class and workshops. If you’re free at that time, we’d love to have you attend and play in the Harp Ensemble. There is no charge for registration. The Naples Harp Ensemble will be performing a concert along with Adult Afficiondos at the American Harp Society National Conference in New Orleans. June 22-25, 2014. Our concert is June 25 and we’ll feature several of Ron’s Harp Ensemble arrangements. Dickie will also be directing the Massed Harp ensemble Concert with All the Harp Ensembles participating. So, Mark your calendar. (February 21,22 and 23) and June 22-25, 2014.

I hope Ron can help out on your part for Rite of Spring.

    Sincerely,

    Barbara Kraichy

    Hi Harpists,

Yes, my chiropractor said I had inflammation in my shoulder. That’s why the ice treatment and it takes out the inflammation. Nothing was mentioned about having bursitis, but my shoulder muscles were tight and inflamed and the ice pack (for short periods of time) relieved the pain and an exercise rotating my arm backward instead of forward reaching (Reaching for the bass strings) really helped.
