I agree with every response. Musicians go to school and study to become professional musicians, just like any other profession. Those that continuously go out and play for free make it nearly impossible for those that do this for a living. You should be respected & paid for your work, period.
Oh I just read! 🙂 I totally agree with Carl’s structure: $150-$200. It’s difficult to increase price but if you do it in small increments, it’s not so bad.
In what area are you located? You said you’re the only one, and you’re playing a pedal or small lever harp?

Thank you ! A harpist friend of mine in Chicago said she spoke to the woman who actually makes the covers, and she didn’t recommend washing them
It’s beyond needing spot cleaning, and I live in NYC so there’s lots of unseen dirt, haha. In general, it’s just a dirty place to be, so since I keep the cover in the apartment with me, I do need to get it cleaned some way. I never thought of shrinking! I thought of it molding on the inside, if i washed it. So I was hoping that someone had tried it already 
The harp is not gilded! I’ll look into what L&H has to clean it.

Yikes! Emily, thanks for posting. I agree with you…I’m having trouble with the upper octave string sound.
And, I can’t adjust to the feel and sound of nylons in the upper octave. After I used your harp in Houston, I played in Michigan and the harp they gave me had the 1st 2 and a 1/2 octave strung in nylon and it sounded like 2 different harps and I had to totally change my attack in my right hand. Was so weird. I never play on nylons at all unless it’s a small lever harp.
Is the varnish the issue?
Has anyone tried the strings that Venus makes? I’ve heard both good & bad things about those.

Yea, those are not published…but I think Mrs. Michel plans to do more recordings in the future…so maybe something will be published??

this happens ALL of the time! By the way, it is VERY generous of you to play 30 minutes of prelude and 30 minutes of postlude music!!
I charge a flat ceremony rate that covers overtime within reason. A ceremony itself generally isn’t long, so I block out almost 2 full hours, including prelude and a cushion for being late. My contract also has an overtime clause, which is not much, but it’s a flat rate, per half hour.
I hate asking for overtime after the fact, but sometimes it has to be done.
