I’ve had a bright idea – take or find an acoustic, meaning a Spanish guitar and a tutor book if you are not already a player, you’ll only miss out using your left thumb !
Recorded in 1991 on Philips Classics Productions, I found Maria Graf’s CD, plenty of chunky chords in the 3rd movement !
We had Tailleferre as the radio ‘Composer of the Week’ recently, a 5 day exploration of her life story and her compositions and it was the first time I’d heard this work so we are in luck here, if what I hear is what you are describing at between 18 and 19 minutes in. The presenter didn’t specify only one movement, so hopefully that confirms that they have included complete the Sonata’s movement of interest to you, assuming you can listen to this in Canada. It seems to me that if a rivet were to fail, then having some 3/16 bolts handy would rescue the situation and of no matter if they are too long. (I bought some today which are 1 inch long, so they’ll go in my kit bag and I can always get a bolt shortened once I’m home).
BTW: the WD40 applied sparingly in 2018 resolved the problem overnight and has been fine since so I don’t think I am living in fear of said dust !! (Ha ha).
Annoyingly there is one pedal which flops down (just as Carl described) but that’s a minor issue !Very interesting, if you could identify on which LP or disc Zabeleta recorded it, I would be extremely grateful. I listened to Marisa Robles recording in the 1970’s and then never heard it again until some 20 years later and the loveliest recording is on Gabriella Dall’Olio’s disc Recital for Harp.
Annoyingly I think the geometry of springs on the Ayoama harps is such that one needs extra effort to slide a pedal horizontally into position and this can be noisy – not really noticeable in orchestra but borderline in solos. I thought about upending both harps to compare as the Salvi has a smooth action so obviously the tension/direction vector is as it should be, as Carl states, set to pull the bias into the slot.
It wasn’t until I started teaching a pupil with an older well-used Aoyama that my niggling suspicion was confirmed, (noise and effort are pronounced) enough to discuss and think about it. Have asked a technician and he informed me that the Aoyama geometry is different (as if to say I can’t improve or adjust it) but I might at least take a look and compare the two.The problem is that new replies go missing then turn up and then go missing again ! Very frustrating.
Last night (4/27/22) I made a reply to topic “Will orchestras accept any form of the Rainbow series from Salvia?” and then it wasn’t visible. Today (4/28/22) I couldn’t see it at first, then it appeared so I edited it to add in 2 URL links and now it has disappeared again. Please investigate as I noticed and logged this behaviour a few months ago.
That’s ridiculous, I always check that the material is appealing to the pupil, or at least accommodated for it’s purpose, if it’s a technical study for example.
Can you donate the harp to a high school which has an orchestra and metalwork department ? pedal rods and springs are relatively easy to fix with a bench and replacement parts.
Thank you, I just wanted suggestions that are not complicated, too thick in texture or hard to read or navigate for a novice harpist !
