Lyon & Healy Harps will continue to operate its harp factory at its historic location at Lake Street and Ogden Avenue on Chicago’s Near West Side, a change from the company’s previously announced plans to transition its factory to a newly purchased facility in the Galewood neighborhood of Chicago. Citing a need for a larger factory space, Lyon & Healy had announced plans to move in early 2024. According to a press release this month, the harp maker will maintain ownership of both the Ogden factory and the new Galewood facility. While no final decisions have been made about the future of its factory operations, the company indicated in its press release there would be no interruption in production or sales. Lyon & Healy adds that it will keep the Galewood facility to help meet the company’s needs for storage and shipping.
“We are proud of our Chicago heritage, and our factory on Ogden has been home to Lyon & Healy harp making for more than 130 years,” Lyon & Healy President Marco Salvi says. “Our presence here is celebrated not only by our employees but also by the harp community, who view this location as an iconic part of the company’s story.” The Chicago harp manufacturer has been making harps on the same block where its present factory is located since about 1890.
