Notes from the arranger
The Classical repertoire has been my inspiration for this third volume of harp duos, all three arrangements having been performed in concert by Elinor Bennett and myself. We found that Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words were always well received, as they have been appreciated by generations of pianists and have appeared in many other forms.
The second arrangement in this volume is the wonderful waltz from The Merry Widow, Franz Lehár’s operetta: having played the orchestral part in dozens of performances, it gave me much pleasure to play the actual tune. I am indebted to Michael Pollock for such a skillful arrangement which I am sure will be well received by harpists.
This arrangement may be heard on a CD of harp duets released by Sain – ‘Popular Melodies for the Harp – Harp Duo’ (Sain SCD 9033) and can be downloaded from www.sioplawrlwythosain.com.
