Doralice Suite

Maurice Draughn’s “Doralice Suite” is an original work for solo pedal harp. “Written as an homage to two of the early pioneers of jazz and soul harp, Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, each of the three movements highlights the rhythmic and harmonic drive of Ashby and Coltrane’s style within the form of a classical idiom,” says Draughn. “The contemporary flare and essence of the two harpists are depicted throughout the work in the usage of harp effects, brief motifs, and irregular meter.”
