Unst Boat Song

$4.99

Marilyn Rummel’s arrangement of the ancient tune “Unst Boat Song” is for solo lever or pedal harp. From the island of Unst in the Shetlands Islands, this piece is an example of a boat prayer song. “Sung by the fishermen or their wives, the song conveys both a worry about the storm approaching and a prayer for safety,” says Rummel. While the melody only has four notes in the tune, the harmonies are more complex. Rummel says, “It is slow and ideal for meditative use, to get us through all the storms of life.”
