Composer Alexander Spendiaryan was born in what is modern Ukraine. He studied composition with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov who considered Spendiaryan to be a talented composer in his own right. He is considered the father of Classical music in Armenia where he founded the Armenian State Orchestra in Yerevan.
