About the composer
Harpist and composer Alfred Zamara (1863-1940) was born in Vienna into a family of musicians of Italian origin. He studied composition with Anton Bruckner and Robert Fuchs.
He succeeded his father, harpist Anton Zamara, as professor for harp at “Konservatorium der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde” (now: University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna) from 1887-1919. 1892-94 he was a member of Hofopernorchester (orchestra of the royal opera Vienna).
Not many of Alfred Zamara’s compositions are still being played, mostly because they are out of print. This little gem “Mes premières pensées”, “My first thoughts” was published in 1897 and dedicated to his “beloved wife”, Katharina Radakovich (married 1894).
In this re-edition I added pedal markings and for better readability made some enharmonic changes. Suggestions for damping are mine, fingerings are mostly from Zamara–with a few exceptions.
