Ekaterina Afanasieva has arranged the popular Christmas tune “Carol of the Bells” by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych for solo pedal harp. The melody is taken from a Ukrainian folk chant, known since the 20th century as ‘Shchedryk’ which translates to ‘The Little Swallow.’ Before the Christmas lyrics were set, the chant was originally sung for the new year.
