Notes from the arranger
Repeating right hand patterns create a cascading, “running water” effect at the beginning and end of the piece, contrasted by low chords, left hand melody, and left hand crossovers. Verses 2-3 explore dissonance, rolled chords, arpeggios, and other techniques to create color and contrast. The arrangement begins in C major, modulates to F major, and ends in D major. I thought the message of the hymn – “Like a river glorious, is God’s perfect peace” – was perfect for this time in our world!
